JOB TITLE: Application Engineering Manager Asia - Hydraulic Pressure & Control
REPORTS TO: Director of Engineering Asia
Main Responsibilites:
? The Application Engineering Manager maintains a database of products developed or being developed in the group and identifies synergies between different Application Centers.
He/she keeps constant communication with Centers of Excellence and updates the technical specifications of existing and new applications and platforms.
? Before the acquisition phase, the Applications Engineering Manager coordinates the technical activities of the TPEs to propose to the customers the existing developed products or to customise existing products to suit new customer applications, minimising changes from current products or technologies.
In collaboration with Product Managers and Business Development department, he/she collects information about current and future market trends and creates a roadmap for the development of new platforms.
? During the acquisition phase, he/she acts as initial interface to the Sales Department and, in collaboration with the Product Managers and the Global Engineering Leads, he/she checks new development requests prior to Q1 gate in order to:
o …verify if the proposed program is included in the approved engineering budget
o …verify if the proposed program conforms to the product strategy released by the Product Manager
o …verify if the proposed program can be obtained by an existing similar program (re) using standard product core technology or if a new development has to be triggered
Based on the above analysis, he/she proposes the correct engineering center to lead the development or requests Center of Excellence decision.
The Application Engineering Manager coordinates and leads the completion of preliminary risk assessments and coordinates with quotation leader and TPE to create the initial cost estimations of new products. He/she reviews SORs and when business is successfully acquired, creates a hand over package so that the project can be transferred to a product engineering team for development for mass production.

Other Duties and Responsibilities
? Provide support for planning and executing marketing events, including planning samples and exhibits, providing technical information, presentations and seminars to Customers on company technologies
? Must develop a thorough understanding of FPC products sufficient to enable early discussions with Customers, accurate information gathering and to determine the feasibility of particular production technologies or systems.
? Liaises with regional engineering teams and global CoE’s to gain access to product information, math data, test results and similar. Will require clear communication using email, telephone, Web-Ex etc. where necessary this will involve working outside normal business hours due to the time zone differences with other global teams.
? Summarises information pertaining to the Customers potential requirements and investigates the use or customisation of existing products and technologies, completing a risk assessment to determine the impact of differences in respect to risk and cost.
? Coordinates analysis activities needed to determine technical feasibility or performance of concept.
? Makes detailed presentations to Customers regard FPC’s products and capabilities. Includes presenting concept solutions and proposals based on the work of self or others.
? Provide support to quoting function to help estimate the preliminary product costs, including, but not limited to, gathering surrogate data or drawings, producing BOM’s, making reports to identify differences from editing products or make basic drawings.
? Provide support to prepare Q1 screening material, including participating and presenting in the meeting as required.
? Develop and maintain key customer relationships with the aim of early involvement in new customer projects or upgrades.
? Support value activities including both suggesting and evaluating cost saving proposals, designing validation plans and presenting ideas to internal groups, suppliers and customers.
? Supports regional teams as required in Customer presentations, quoting and technical reviews in the area of FPC components, modules or systems.
Organizational Relationship
? Reports to the Director of Engineering, FPCG Asia.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
? Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
? 5 years minimum Manufacturing and / or Design / Development experience in the automotive industry, particularly in the area of engine / transmission components. Must include relevant experience in casting design, design for manufacture, design for serviceability, machining and assembly methodology and processes.
? Must be able to demonstrate superior system and component level knowledge of engines and transmissions.
? Exceptional organizational and communication skills both verbal and written in English. Fluency in Mandarin is a plus.
? Must be a self-starter, able to work as part of both Regional and Global team, travelling as required.
Technical Skills Requirements
? Demonstrated knowledge of engine and transmission technologies both from design / development and manufacturing, including latest industry technologies and trends.
? Demonstrated experience working within design or engineering project teams, preferably on a global basis.
? Ability to lead technical reviews / discussions surrounding product design and manufacturing with the customers, global team members and suppliers.
? Knowledge of GD&T, QFD, Design for Serviceability, Design for Assembly, Design for Manufacture, VE / VA, DOE, FTA, Process Flow Diagrams, Control Plans, Quote Procedures / Contract review, Failure Mode Effect Analysis (DFMEA / PFMEA), 8D analysis and Dimensional Stack Analysis.
? Knowledge of product testing, validation and analysis techniques (including development of DVP&R’s to support robust product designs).
? Knowledge of techniques and processes used to produce prototype components.
? Knowledge and experience of project / program management techniques (including creation / maintenance of project time lines and budgets).
? Computer literate (i.e. Microsoft Office and basic knowledge in CAD/CAM/FEA/CFD packages)
? Commercial and financial awareness applicable to discuss design concepts and proposals at prototype and production level.
? Customer focused attitude to meeting project goal and objectives. Understanding of approach needed to deal with customers and suppliers particularly in situations where problems have arisen or deadlines are tight.
? Superior presentation skills.
