POSITION DESCRIPTION
The function of this position is a broad range of duties including new materials development, commercialization of products, customer interface, and project management and to provide the leadership necessary for the effective operation of new product development functions in such a way as to maximize the return to the company for the resources employed.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide technical leadership in the development of materials to meet customer requirements or to provide the company with a competitive or strategic advantage.
• Ongoing communication with R&D, commercial development at headquarters in Italy.
• Manage the department in a manner which meets or exceeds all department goals including revenue, profit, quality, & safety.
• Ensure that all departmental safety and environmental regulatory obligations of the company are met and take action to correct non-conformance.
• Establish and ensure compliance with all policies and procedures by all department personnel.
• Guarantee the continued growth and success of the department, by ensuring that all employees, though adequate training, meet or exceed established guidelines and standards of performance
• Establish and maintain a work environment which promotes the career development and growth of each employee.
• Maintain open and effective lines of communication with managers, employees, vendors, suppliers and major customers.
• Keep pace with industry technological advances, as they impact the company and incorporate such advances into the company's strategic plan for improved effectiveness and profits.
• Analyze and approve the annual operating budget for the department.
• Review all wage and salary levels. Ensure that they are fair, equitable and competitive and contribute to the goal of maintaining a stable, motivated work force.
• Develop a key individual to perform the vital functions of the position during periods of absence.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Education:

• Required: Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or polymer science or equivalent experience in the plastic Compounding/extruding industry.
• Preferred: Master’s degree in polymer science, chemical science of an MBA degrees.

Experience:

• Required: Five years of management experience in the plastic compounding/extruding industry with increasing levels of responsibility.
• Preferred: Ten years experience in the plastic compounding/extruding industry with five or more years in a management capacity with profit and loss responsibility.

Skills & Knowledge:

• Special skills are required in planning and coordinating a business; detailed knowledge of industry practices and environmental regulations; the ability to communicate verbally and in writing, accomplish goals and objectives through effective delegation and management of personnel, direct employees requiring adherence to company policies and procedures and manage the assets of the company.
• Possess a high level of organization and management skill and the ability to motivate, lead and develop employees
• Specific knowledge and expertise with engineered plastics business, and materials including nylon, PA, and PBT, POM and TPE.
