Summary/Scope of Position:

Performs intermediate level software testing tasks including, test case development, test planning, scheduling, and execution. Assures that developed products meet requirements and are within total quality management standards. Intermediate level position in Test Engineering, operating under minimal supervision.

Essential Competencies:

Functional

Performs product testing, reporting on problems encountered and documenting test results for follow-up.
Development and review of Product Requirements to assure that information required for the development of test cases are contained in the specifications.
Estimate, plan, and develop test cases and test collateral; and execute tests at the system, integration, and functional levels.
Prioritize and execute multiple activities in parallel.
Work closely with development, requirements analysts and others to ensure proper resolution to problems; determine origin and root cause.
Actively participate in peer reviews: requirements, code, design, test as required.
Ensure documented test cases and specifications validate documented software requirements: ensure appropriate test coverage is attained.
Contributes to the development of test automaton frameworks and automated tests.
Works with other disciplines to determine product functionality and scope of testing.

Leadership

May mentor Associate Test Engineer and/or Test Engineer.
Provide performance feedback for Associate Test Engineer and/or Test Engineer

Interpersonal

Effectively communicates complex information verbally and in writing.
Ability to convey thoughts and opinions to others with differing points of view.
Leverages own expertise by sharing lessons learned, documenting processes, conducting team de-briefs, etc.

Business

Adheres to policies and procedures relating to standards of business conduct, ethics, and conflicts of interest and completes annual training in same.

Ensures thorough familiarity with company policies and procedures. Appropriately applies policies and procedures in compliance with government laws. Policies and procedures include, but not limited to: Standards of Business Conduct, Intellectual Property, Control Environment, Information Protection, ISO 9000 & 14000, government regulations (e.g. health, safety, quality and environmental), and functional policies published on the Rockwell Automation Information Network.





For those with supervisory responsibilities: Trains and motivates subordinates in the importance of full compliance with the letter and spirit of such policies and procedures.

Education Requirements:

Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering, with concentration in software; or equivalent knowledge in the areas of software engineering (software requirements analysis, software design, software testing).

Experience Requirements:

Typically requires a minimum of 5 years experience in Software Testing, Software Development, Applications Engineering, Technical Support, or other Testing/Quality Assurance role.
Working knowledge of software test methodologies required. Experience with automated test tools is beneficial.
Multiple years experience using industrial automation software products, especially Rockwell Software products, is highly desirable.
Must exhibit good interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
Proficiency in Windows operating systems (Server 2008, Windows 7, Vista, XP) required.
Experience with Microsoft Office products required.
Experience programming in Visual Studio (Visual Basic and/or Visual C++) preferred.
Experience testing highly integrated software products is highly desirable, as well as experience in debugging and troubleshooting network protocols.
