2. Department description
Within the Lighting sector the Design group in Shanghai is the centre of excellence for the Design function within Lighting for China and ASIA region.
The Design group supports the Lighting sector by proposing new usage and meaning for LED solutions in order to innovate in the application of Light and by creating user centered and well-designed solutions (form, function, experience). Design supports Lighting in making technology relevant, designing meaningful propositions that are on brand, and in making attractive and sustainable products that people really desire and can be manufactured cost effectively.
The Global design department consists of the following centers of expertise:
· Product Design: working together with R&D centers to design all new Lighting products.
· Interaction Design: designing (on screen) user interfaces that are attractive, easy and pleasant to use, in close collaboration with software developers.
· Strategic Design: supporting foresight and innovation together with business and company design partners.
· Communication Design: creating concepts, guidelines and graphic design specifications for visual elements of printed and on-line communication and packaging solutions in marketing, retail and user contexts.
· Iconic projects: speeding up Innovation by defining and executing iconic innovation projects together with key customers with the potential to land in Business Market Combinations.
· Design project and delivery management: securing effective and efficient delivery of design services and allocation of resources.
3. Description of the sector that the candidate would work for
The actual position is for the Product design department. Candidate will report operationally to the Design Delivery Manager and functionally to the Creative Lead of the region and will be involved on a variety of lighting projects across different business units:

Visual design skills
You must be able to understand, use and develop your visual design skills to visualize the core Philips brand value of simplicity across different products, thereby helping to support our business goals and increasing brand recommendations and loyalty:
- Visualization
Using appropriate skills (sketching, 3D modeling, rendering) to define and communicate product concepts;
- Visual language
Creating effective and appropriate visual languages by understanding the meaning and effect of these on the brand, audience, market and culture.
Functional design skills

7. We are looking for
· Bachelor or Master Degree in product design.
· 5+ years' relevant experience in one or more specific business domains and in one or more markets and cultures. You have worked in multidisciplinary teams and partnered with specialists of other design disciplines in order to develop fully integrated new propositions from start to end.
· You are interested in the field of Lighting products and habits or have even already experience in designing for this market.
· Updated knowledge and insight into the latest (market) trends and developments within (product) design.
· Good analytical & conceptual skills in order to increase domain knowledge, to create relevant insights and to create meaningful and innovative solutions.
· Your design skills help you to articulate meaningful products through form, function, interaction, manufacture, materials and finish. You create functional product concepts that appropriately address the user-context requirements.
