Responsibility 1 – Design and Implementation of stack converter
The stack converter is a non-isolated bidirectional DC-DC converter. The purpose is to control the charging current of the stack and sits between the DC bus and the battery stack. Preliminary schematic design has been completed. The applicant will need to be able to build a prototype and confirm correct operation. They will then need to manage the redesign of the device to suit mass manufacturing techniques and ensure the least cost approach is used whilst still maintaining performance requirements,
Work standard – the critical aspect of this design is robustness and cost. The choice of design and assembly methods will be evaluated to ensure that both of these targets are achieved.
Responsibility 2 – Design and implementation of module converter
The second key areas is the isolated DC-DC converter. The responsibility is the same but in the case the converter is a bidirectional galvanically isolated converter of several kilowatt rating.
Work standard – as per above, robustness, performance and cost balance will be reviewed
Responsibility 3 – Microcontroller software
The converters fit into an intelligent system. Data monitoring and communications as well as control are key aspects of the converters. Consequently the applicant will also need to be familiar with and capable of programming microcontrollers to perform the necessary control and communication functions for the DC-DC converters to operate within the battery module.
Work standard – The code will need to be written so it can be readily understood by others and perform the necessary tasks using inexpensive micro controllers.
Responsibility 4 – Manufacturing
The applicant will have to assist with sourcing, assessing and liasing with manufacturing facilities for the construction of a quantity of converters in the range of 10-100 units. These are for demonstration only. Later much larger quanitites will be required.
Essential Desirable
At least 3 years experience in designing multi kW DC-DC converters Designed and tested for electromagnetic compatibility
Familiar with schematic and PCB layout software Familiar with MODBUS protocol
Have designed high frequency magnetic components such as inductors and transformers Used modelling tools such as PSIM or similar
Worked with microcontrollers such as PIC or Atmel AVR series
