1．PURPOSE

In order to fulfill and accelerate the business development needs of Philips Lighting GBU LED retrofit & module by providing world class design and quality products, this job position is set up to develop mechanical support parts for retrofit lamps as a key member of product development project team within the Shanghai R&D department.

This job function has mechanical related competences (mechanical design, molding analysis, thermal analysis) together with communication and work in team skills.

This job function is working in the sustaining group responsible for maintaining, updating and upgrading the responsible products; driving cost reduction program after prototype development phase.

The supply base is located in mainland China, and requires frequent communication and visits of this job function to ensure product quality, cost, and time.

3. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

- Maintenance and update the responsible products in the PLM system
- Lead the cross-functional team to execute the component-level cost reduction program for those products after MS3 milestone, some even start from MS2 milestone
- Report the product cost status and plan to reach to cost target
- Take the responsibility for qualification reports for technical changes or failure analysis
- Provide qualification support for volume-up or allocation
- Provide cost analysis for negotiation and manufacturing cost down
- Could be capable to make or modify the mechanical design based on the functional specification in cooperation with system engineers, electronic engineers, thermal engineer, process engineer and safety engineer
- Apply design principles for cost, performance, manufacturability (parts making and assembly), heat management, packing, compliance with internal and external standards
- Use tool (like UG) to design the mechanical structure, include electronic components design.
- Knowledgeable about materials (plastics, metal, ceramic, and etc.): properties and supplier
- Design and adaptation for fast-prototype for verification of concept and/or build up demonstration
- Knowledgeable of tooling and process (injection molding, die casting, and etc.)
- Deliver design drawings (2D, 3D) and other mechanical documents (BOM, 110sheet) per request of project manager, purchasing and marketing
- Release mechanical parts together with tooling for product, process, and production release
- Support process engineer, development quality engineer and CSG quality engineer to solve problem once request
- Actively participate in Mechanical Competence meeting to share learning, discuss issues, and work on long term program
- Scout for new material, component, technology, supplier for better quality, lower cost and new feature
- Generate innovative ideas/IPs together with other colleagues to help Philips build up strong position in SSL business


4. REQUIREMENTS

- BSc/MSc in ME, preferably 2-5 years of practical experience.
- The candidate has experience in project management.
- The candidate has a mechanical back-ground with knowledge of material properties, tooling and has demonstrated a great drive for getting things done, on-time.
- The candidate should be familiar with mechanical design software, like UG.
- The candidate should be familiar with development quality tools to ensure the quality of design.
- Good command of the English language in both speaking and writing is a must.
- Sense of urgency and high resilience level
- Strong execution and ability of driving for result
- Ability to work under stress and ambiguity

Global Business Unit LED Lamps

A separate Global Business Unit LED Lamps (GBU LED Lamps) was established Jan 1st 2011 as part of the Business Group Lamps (BG Lamps). This followed upon fast growth of our LED Lamps category sales over the last few years.

The GBU LED Lamps is strategic to Philips Lighting, focusing on development and introduction of LED Lamps to replace a variety of conventional lamp types in existing (as well as marginally modified) fixtures. LED Lamps offer end-customers a ‘quick & easy’ way to upgrade their existing light fixtures to LED technology, while offering light fixture manufacturers a ‘fast & minimum investment’ route to ‘go LED’.

The GBU LED Lamps has no in-house production, but works with outsourcing partners for assembly. The (sub-) components can initially be purchased from suppliers or developed together with a supplier.
