Philips automotive lighting application development center APR Shanghai is established in 2008 with special focus of providing automotive lighting system solutions to car manufactures in Asia pacific region. One of the major goals of application development center APR Shanghai is to create green and stylish automotive lighting solutions based on our high performance automotive light sources (halogen, gas discharge lamps, LED) and technology competence in photometric measurement, mechanical design, heat management, optical simulation, electronics design and fast prototyping. To keep pace with the rapid growth of car industries in APR region and the quest for energy efficient and green lighting solutions, we are looking for an excellent optical expert as senior application engineer and LED system engineer to further extend our technology competence.

Job description:
As a senior application engineer (optics) and LED L2 system engineer you will work in a young and creative engineer team and be responsible for:
Developing of optical concepts and practical solutions related to innovative automotive lighting solutions with LED
Propose reference optical design with either reflective or refractive optics which includes free form reflector, projection lens, Fresnel lens, collimator lens, light blade or light guide as examples.
Conduct optical design for LED modules and systems, summarize design rules and develop optical design toolkit
Collaborate with external suppliers to come up with practical solutions to solve the technical issues related to mass production of LED modules
Supporting marketing team to develop customized high efficient optical solution for carmakers, e.g. cost effective LED headlamp
Analysis of application potential of emerging automotive lighting technologies through feasibility studies
Verification of proposed system solutions by prototyping and experimental measurement
Participate in and initiate of collaborative projects in an international team environment (research, development, application, marketing, external customers)
Delivery fast response and high quality optical design supports to major carmakers
Presentation of system solutions to internal and external customers

Your profile:
B.S or master degree in optics, mechanics or physics
Strong background in optical simulation, optical measurement, LED module design and manufacturing process.
Experienced with one of following optical design software: Speos/OptisWorks, LightTools, ASAP, Lucidshape, Zemax or TracePro
Practical work experience in optical, LED or automotive lighting industry highly preferred
Good knowledge in LED production and packaging process as well as LED module design and manufacturing
Fluent in English, very good in both writing and speaking
Good presentation and communication skills with strong focus at customers
Willing to travel and to actively participate in projects with external partners
Proven ability to work independently in a dynamic work environment and to strive for solid results by collaboration with colleagues from different background
Strongly motivated to create never-before-possible lighting solutions
Serious work attitude to address technical details and to deliver excellent results for daily work
Good skill in time management and project prioritization
Ability to quickly learn new knowledge and to make own contributions within a short period of time
