Application Engineer

SUMMARY

Provides detailed sales and technical support and customer specification evaluation for routine assignments of moderate variety and complexity. Assignments are generally difficult in nature and require a degree of originality and ingenuity. Interfaces with engineering, participates on project teams and takes responsibility for assigned phases of projects. Uses professional engineering knowledge to make judgements involving engineering and economic principles and calculations to persuade potential buyers of the practical value of the product or service. Prepares financial and operational estimates from blueprints, plans, or other records submitted by potential customers. Proposes changes in equipment or use of materials, which would result in cost reduction or more efficient operation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1.Provides detailed sales and technical support and customer specification evaluation for routine assignments of moderate variety and complexity.Conducts basic internal training in area of specialization.Interfaces with Project Engineering and Sales personnel. Solicits design, commercial and project management information on specific project phases and distributes design and commercial data and documentation to information on specific project phases and distributes design and commercial data and documentation to appropriate personnel.

2.Read, evaluate and understand scope of written and oral commercial or technical support requests. Requests clarification from requester as necessary and suggests modifications in support of customer requests and company goals, as necessary. Maintains accurate records in accordance with department procedures. Responsible for methods of documentation and data retrieval. Performs routine analysis to check applicability, accuracy and precision of sizing procedures.

3.Uses experience and judgement to plan and accomplish assigned goals. Selects design and test methods, procedures, equipment, data format and arranges schedule for projects. Able to seek advice on adaptation/development of unique applications, test programs, procedures and schedules, when customer requirements identify a special need.

4.Completes process design per customer requirements, performs basic mechanical design checks, collects commercial (cost and Terms & Conditions) information from Company resources, and develops proposed pricing in accordance with Company policy. Arranges for laboratory test in accordance with test methods and procedures, as required. Responsible for communication of design and pricing information to customer, i.e., Representative or End User. Documentation requirements may include formal test reports and other items necessary to support the sales effort.

5.Possesses and applies basic knowledge of particular field of specialization to the completion of assigned tasks and problems. Able to draw on understanding of Chemical and Mechanical Engineering disciplines to solve routine problems.

6.Develops and demonstrates understanding of LIGHTNIN design procedures and products, and their application at end user sites. Demonstrates an aptitude and desire to learn new skills.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience

1.A bachelor,s BS degree in Chemical Engineering and 3 years of equivalent experience is required.

2.Requires understanding of mixing systems and their unique features and characteristics. Needs knowledge of all LIGHTNIN process design and commercial control procedures. Needs basic understanding of laboratory equipment functions and limits, and ability to learn new instrumentation/equipment. Fluent use of computer programs such as Excel and MS Word or other related software.

Language Skills

Good spoken and written English. Able to read and interpret documents such as operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and laboratory test programs. Able to read and comprehend, and write technical reports and correspondence. Able to read and comprehend basic legal and financial language. Able to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate and manipulate figures and amounts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, areas, circumference and volume. Competent in the use and conversion of units of measurement. Able to apply concepts of calculus, algebra and geometry

Reasoning Ability

Able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

The general work environment is an office setting, the employee is regularly required to sit and operate a computer keyboard and mouse.
