Storage & Backup Administrator
Description/Summary:
LSI Corporation currently has an opening for a Storage & Backup Administrator. The Storage & Backup Administrator is responsible for operational management of all storage and backup technologies both locally and globally as this position is part of a global team. This technology includes the various NAS environments (NetApps 6240/6280, ONStor), Storage Area Networks – SAN (Brocade), Block Level Storage (EMC VNX), DAS environments and all other technologies classified as a storage technology. Data protection is an important part of this job function so having a good understand and knowledge about this area is a big part of this job. Having a good understanding of the different RAID levels, poses industry knowledge on the best practices around storage configuration and allocation.
The responsibilities will include new product testing and evaluation as it relates to these technologies, managing and maintaining the company's storage-based and backup systems and the deployment of these technologies. They will also be an escalation point for the company for operation issues in this area. In addition, they will be responsible for understanding business objectives and seeking ways to help the company meet these goals with storage and backup technology solutions. Storage Administrators will be required to prepare business documents such as Business Cases, RFPs and RFIs, Decision Matrices and Cost Analyses as they relate to storage-based technology.
Disaster Recovery and Backups are one of the most important aspect of this position, knowing and understanding backups and DR best practices is critical in protecting LSI valuable intellectually property.
Must have an in-depth working knowledge of Unix and Linux and be comfortable with the operating systems.
Poses 3-5 years of Unix/Linux experience and must have a good knowledge and handle on shell scripting.
General Responsibilities of the Storage & Backup Administrator:
？ Participate as part of a global team to provide technical support, resolve issues and plan for new applications and services in the storage and backup infrastructure;
？ ?Aid in the development of maintaining, creating, administering and implementing policies/procedures to ensure the security and integrity of the company's data;
？ Provide documentation for storage deployments or systems that rely on them;
？ Provide technical support and problem resolution on moderately complex issues in one or more of the following areas: network attached storage, fibre channel attached storage, data protection technologies, backup policies, schedules, storage platform maintenance, performance issues, capacity issues, and reporting;
？ Maintain Operations documentation for storage-based platforms;
？ Maintain Operations documentation for backup platforms;
？ Maintain the health of the NAS (Block and File) environments;
？ Maintain the health of the SAN environments;
？ Monitor performance of storage environments and the systems that rely on them;
？ Perform emergency maintenance of storage-based systems;
？ Create and execute Change Management for storage-based changes;
？ Create business documents for new storage-based offerings;
？ Continuously strive to improve support, identify opportunities to increase efficiency and expand services;
？ Work on projects as assigned;
？ Perform other duties as assigned/required;
Specific Job Duties:
？ Supports and troubleshoots the storage and backup infrastructure hardware components in the Shanghai data center;
？ ?Supports and troubleshoots the storage and backup infrastructure in remote sites;
？ Assists in budgeting / cost modeling process ;
？ Addresses a variety of system integration issues including migration between disparate data storage solutions, integration, and capacity planning;
？ Responsible for adherence to backup policies, tracking change control items, and addressing trouble tickets;
？ Maintain backup jobs, i.e. policies, procedures, schedules, notification/alarming and creation as needed;
？ Author and maintain data storage documentation;
？ On-Call responsibility;
？ Other duties as assigned;
Qualifications/Required Skills:
？ Bachelor’s in Computer Science, related field or equivalent experience;
？ Minimum 3 years’ experience in related field;
？ Working knowledge of database and application administration with respect to data recovery processes;
？ Working knowledge of one or more operating environments (LINUX, UNIX, Windows, etc.);
？ Working knowledge of Symantec NetBackup;
？ Working knowledge of NAS and SAN solutions from EMC and NetApp (Celerra, Centera, VNX, Clariion, FAS series);
？ Working knowledge of fibre channel management (aliases, zoning, fc ports, port virtualization);
？ Working knowledge of data protection technologies (RAID, backup / recovery, replication, etc.);
？ Analytical and problem-solving skills;
？ Must be able to work effectively as part of a team;
？ Stays current with rapidly changing technology and applies it to business needs;
？ Ability to learn and communicate technical information;
？ Must have excellent written and oral communication skills , command of the English language is a MUST;
？ Must possess strong interpersonal skills in order to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
