Primary Duties/ Responsibilities
Create and maintain software products. May be involved in some or all phases of the software development and release cycle. These phases include research, conceptual planning, design, scheduling, coding, code reviews, troubleshooting and debugging, status reporting
Maintain a focus on customer requirements and project objectives while mitigating project and product risk. Must be self-motivated and able to work in a team environment with limited supervision
Improves and maintains thorough and accurate documentation of all work
Qualifications (include knowledge, skills, abilities, and related work experience)
Experience
Industry - 5+ years of software development experience. Prior experience with shrink-wrap commercial Windows software development required
System level programming, Windows (preferred), Unix, or Linux
Object oriented software design
Multi-threaded design and development
Platforms/Operating Systems - Understanding of operating system concepts and networking protocols. Knowledge and experience of operating system internals desirable
Programming Languages - Strong C/C++ programming and debugging skills
Technical Skills
Development - Strong C/C++ or C#. Developer is expected to thoroughly understand the programming language and be able to review new and old code for errors, security hazards, performance implications, and maintainability. Microsoft Windows programming technologies such as Win32, COM/DCOM, .NET
Design – Experience with object oriented software design. Expected to exercise sound technical judgment and minimize risk
Debugging - Strong debugging and problem solving skills. Knowledge and experience using WinDbg desirable
Documentation – Must be able clearly and concisely define technical issues
Non-Technical Skills
Verbal Communication - Strong English language verbal communication skills
Written Communication - Strong English language written communication skills
Problem Solving/Analytical Skills – Must have strong problem solving and analytical skills.
Organizational Skills - Will be required to manage multiple tasks and multiplex effectively
Interpersonal Skills - Will be required to work closely within a team and collaborate with other teams within the organization
Teamwork -Ability to work in a team environment
Motivation - Self-motivated and tenacious when tackling tough technical issues
Independence/Initiative- Able to work with limited supervision
Additional Skills - In addition to the above
Pluses include
Experience with client/server system designs
Experience with the Windows kernel programming environment
Strong developer candidates with Unix, Linux, and MAC OS experience who are willing to learn Windows will also be considered
Functional/Technical Requirements (include education, certifications, and training)
Education: Bachelor or Master Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or technical institute. In-depth knowledge of software, operating system, networking, and programming language theories and concepts required
