BASIC FUNCTION


Development Engineering Service Manager will manage all necessary engineering service activities to support Faucets, Accessories and Showering development projects. Responsible for management of Performance Test Lab, Codes, Model Shop, PDM, Packaging, Publication as well as Bechmarking and Technical Training. Provide required planning, scheduling, and coordination of engineering service projects.


SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES


1.    Primary Function and Scope:

-       Responsible for management of new product Qualification and Verification test.

Qualification: Proving out the design.  Verification: Proving out the tooling / process.

-       Decision making for complex qualification and verification test plan, which reflects customer, regulatory and reliability requirements, and measure the performance of the design (tooling / process) to the requirements.

-       Assure the creation and implementation of a product quality test and audit program to assure performance is maintained throughout product life.

-       Support benchmarking including search, obtain, test, comparison and analysis competitors products and new technology. Organize and share these data to support new product development.

-       Responsible for performing complicated Engineering assignments with a high degree of technical competence.

-       Management of Model shop to decrease product launch time and minimize the risk of design.

-       Support training process for interior and exterior technical training.

-       Management of internal, national and global Codes, with reference to comprehensive understanding of the Codes and information of new Codes and Codes revision, and provide training to related engineers.

-       Responsible for Product Data Management and ensure the data accuracy in SAP.

-       Management of packaging design and publication edit, ensure the quality and time to support the new product development.

-       Effectively creates, plans, organizes and leads Engineering subtasks to meet objectives on multiple projects.

-       Facilitate and manage the engineering service people and processes with the corresponding Engineering team.

-       Generate, define, select, specify, optimize and implement new innovative concepts for new products test and prototype making . 

-       Demonstrate a fundamental understanding of key functional design requirements of faucets and accessories.

-       Demonstrate a “whatever it takes” attitude to ensure the success of the team, Global Fauct’s business, and the NPD projects undertaken.

-       Regularly provide feedback, ideas and solutions for product development and improving corrective actions for design problems

2.    Supervisory Relationships:

-       Manage engineering staff

-       Provides technical guidance and information to team members

-       Coordinates activities with other functional areas, remote plants, suppliers, contractors and consultants.

3.    Communication:

-       Uses speaking, writing and listening skills to effectively share information, communicate results, express opinions and motivate others to act.

4.    Relationship Building:

-       Successfully establishes and maintains positive relationships with all contacts such as co-workers, suppliers and customers in China/Asia and abroad.

5.    Calculated Risk Taker:

-       Makes appropriate decisions using support tools, accurate data and critical thinking.

-       Can justify risk under critical review. 

6.    Analysis:

-       Creates multiple approaches to complex problems and then applies Engineering techniques such as Design for Six Sigma, FMEA and others to optimize a solution.  However, must also recognize when a viable solution should be implemented quickly with minimal analysis or qualification. 

7.    Design:

-       Develop and optimize test fixtures, product prototypes and product packaging to current and new product development requirements.

8.    Plan:

-       Establishes priorities and action plans for multiple projects. 

-       Monitors and takes appropriate corrective action to achieve project objectives.

9.    Leadership & Mentoring:

-       Mentor less experienced Engineers, contract employees, and/or students as needed.

-       As needed, provide backup for business management on technical issues.

-       Leads engineering best practices.

RELATIONSHIPS AND CONTACTS

         Supervisory Relationships:

1.    Reports to Director Development Engineering, Global Faucets, China.

2.    Supervises technical support staff and the work of Product Engineering Services.

         Organization Relationships:

1.    Daily contact with Product Engineering, Marketing, Operations, and Purchasing to insure test timing, test and benchmarking intent, and customer requirements are obtained.

2.    Frequent contact with Current and New Product Engineering, Manufacturing and Purchasing to ensure all requirement of product test, packaging demand and data exchange are met.

3.    Occasional contact with sales, customer service and the end customer to assure understanding of product requirements.

         External Business Relationships:

1.    Some contact with Codes Agency with reference to comprehensive understanding of the Codes and information of new Codes and Codes revision.

2.    As needed, contact with suppliers / consultants to exchange information regarding component quality and requirement.

3.    As appropriate, attend Engineering / manufacturing trade shows and seminars to investigate new materials, products and processes.

4.    As needed may have contact with end consumer and outside sales staff to assist with problem resolution/product improvement issues.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS


1.    Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aeronautical Engineering or other related field from an accredited program or a Mechanical Engineering Technology degree from an accredited program or a Bachelors Degree or greater in a related program. Typically 9 years of Test Lab and Benchmarking Engineering work experience in the engineering function, at least 5 years in the plumbing industry.

2.    Or Master Degree with 6 years above of Test Lab and Benchmarking Engineering work experience in the engineering function, at least 5 years in the plumbing industry.

3.    Previous successful leadership of an Engineering or cross-functional Team in Faucet company or MNC.
