PRODUCT PLANNING MANAGER
Core Job Purpose:
Researches and plans the strategy for development of new and existing products and for potential and existing market penetration of broad and complex nature, based on applications and requirements of existing and potential customers.
Responsibilities:
1. Identify strategic new markets to profitably enter.
2. Identify and size opportunities for new products and services within existing and
potential markets.
3. Perform in-depth market research with end users including field research, surveys
and prototype testing.
4. Develop new products and services with Engineering, Manufacturing and Marketing
teams.
5. Prepare investment proposals for corporate leadership team approval.
6. Monitor and analyze competitors' products and markets.
7. Address technical issues and application of existing and new products.
8. Forecast new product revenue.
Core Essential Functions/Deliverables:
1. Based on Voice of the Customer, initiates new product concept proposals, and if approved, develops a Business Case. The Planner is the original Product Champion for new concepts.
2. Provides marketing direction in collaboration with assigned engineering projects for one or more products.
3. Provides "Voice of the Customer" guidance from Initial Product Concept through product launch.
4. Interacts with engineering, product management, and customers to provide input at product review meetings and sales presentations.
5. Provides support through demo instruction and tool development, functional demonstrations, and telephone consultation.
6. Maintains expertise on products and technologies through training and research.
7. Responsible for development of the Product Requirements Specification for assigned products.
8. Identifies opportunities for new products and translates product and feature characteristics into development parameters; Includes market research, competitive analysis and pricing.
9. Incorporates voice of the customer in all planning aspects to ensure our product design meets market-need.
10. Monitors R&D projects related to assigned products and serves as technical advisor on all matters relating to designated products.
11. Controls funding and senior level has revenue/earnings targets.
12. May assist in product management responsibilities where capabilities and time, or project need exist.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Bachelor's degree in engineering with 5 - 8 years design or application experience plus an MBA degree or equivalent marketing experience. Experience in product development is preferred.
