Job Outline:
This role is mainly responsible for research, knowledge exchange and IP commercialization (hereinafter referred to as “RKE”) related legal work at UNNC and its subsidiaries, and will also be contributing to other areas of legal work and legal risk management.
Qualifications
Essential
- A bachelor degree in LAW or has passed National Judicial Examination / National Legal Professional Qualification Exam.
- Minimum 5 years' work experience (in law firm or corporates) in intellectual properties, IP commercialization and other areas relating to research and knowledge exchange.
- Experience in presenting an organization on court.
- Experience in delivering legal training.
- Strong knowledge in RKE related Chinese laws and its applications, e.g. Intellectual property, data protection and information security related laws. And well understanding of the Chinese laws that are relevant to a University, such as labour law, company law, contract law.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills in Chinese and English, and both in written and verbal form.
- Ability to identify legal risks in large organizations.
- Able to maintain confidentiality about all legal matters.
- Proven skills of performing contract review, drafting contract or legal documents, providing legal advice, registering companies, managing legal disputes, and writing legal case report or annual report independently.
- Ability to manage numerous simultaneous tasks and meet tight deadlines.
- Ability to review RKE related policies and proposals.
- Good problem solving skills.
- Ability to remain calm and composed during times of uncertainty and stress.
- Proven skills to ensure legal documents are clear, concise, unambiguous, and conclusive, leaving no room for subsequent misinterpretation or exploitation.
- Well organized, and accurate in work.
- Able to work under high stress and save the company from legal difficulties
- Good presentation skills.
- Good planning and organizational skills
- Strong IT literacy, and the ability to rapidly learn to use other systems.
Desirable
- Master degree (or above) in Law or a foreign degree in law
- Previously a qualified lawyer.
- Higher education sector / overseas work experience in intellectual properties, IP commercialization and other areas relating to research and knowledge exchange.
- Experience in legal risk management.
- Demonstrable understanding of RKE related laws in UK and other foreign countries.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Providing legal advices mainly on research related matters, but shall also be dealing with other areas such as basic labour / contract related issues.
- Performing contract review.
- Drafting contract or legal documents.
- Contract negotiation.
- Managing legal related disputes.
- Writing legal case report independently.
- Handling lawsuits and representing UNNC on court.
- Identifying legal issues within the business and provides legal analyses and possible legal solutions.
- Providing recommendations for addressing critical legal and policy issues in order to ensure that the business’s legal and overall objectives are met.
- Daily administration of the Online Legal Advise Application system.
- Legal review of RKE related project proposals.
- Legal review of RKE related policies to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Translation of legal related documents.
- Company registration work for UNNC subsidiaries.
- IP registration related work.
- Support with other legal related work as required.
- Legal risk management analysis and implementation.
- Ensure professional and quality service standards are maintained and applied within own area of activity.
- Design and deliver a series of legal training sessions/workshops.
- Development and implementation of legal compliance policies and procedures.
- Identify and review newly amended or adopted laws, regulations and standards of relevance and significance to the University, and to formulate appropriate actions accordingly.
- Studying lawsuits filed by an individual or other business and find appropriate methods to save and ensure minimum loss to the University.
- Documenting and keeping all the legal documents securely.
- Undertake other tasks and responsibilities as may reasonably be required.
- Support on annual planning of legal services and organise work to meet the annual plan and deadlines.
- Analyse legal related data to develop case guidelines and FAQs.
- Regular reporting of legal risk issues to management.
- Annual reporting on legal work and provide recommendations.
- Network with colleagues in other higher education institutions, law firms, and other sectors to share best practice, facilitate future exchange of information and to introduce external resources.
- Improve professional capability and expertise through work experience and/or professional qualification.
- Participate in training and staff development schemes as trainer or trainee as appropriate.
