Lead Engineer, Product Development (Mechanical) – Mother & Child Care

In this role, you have the opportunity to

Join one of our key growth areas as Mother & Child Care Business, known with the brand Philips Avent. You will be part of the R&D organization working in a variety of product categories such as Secure Parenting and Healthy Feeding at the MCC South China (Hong Kong & ShenZhen). As a part of the MCC product development team, you will be contributing to the innovation roadmap realization. You will be involved in the technical execution of a product proposition from (product) system architecture, product requirements, to development and aftercare of innovative products in collaboration with the cross-functional project team, supporting Development Lead / Product Architect to

generate and evaluate concepts for mechanical construction, carry out the feasibility study, design / modeling of the parts and generate 2D drawings. The new products must be suitable for industrialization, meeting approbation & quality requirements, project plan, budget and target cost price. You understand how products are developed and what it takes to build, verify, and deliver to market.

You are responsible for

• Investigating new concepts, design new solutions, and realize prototypes using the latest design techniques and process technologies to ultimately release a safe, and performing product to the market. Perform and investigate on technical issues, problem solving strategies, and engineering principles.
• Lead design engineer position on assignments within a project or being fully independent on executing the product development of a single *** project.
• Driving design review and development with OEM/ODM manufactures and in-house factories, including lifecycle product quality improvements.
• Designing, analyzing, testing and releasing to the market of systems and sub-systems (from requirements definition to verified specification).
• Use of critical thinking to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. Determination of concept feasibility via sound engineering judgement & prototype evaluation.
• Working closely with technical team (eg. Development Lead / System Architect and Technical Product Owner) to define recommendation system requirements.
• Prototype and test product concepts or technical solutions to identify the solution that offers the most value to the consumer and business. Identify the limits of the technical solutions and develop models to explain how the different inputs affect the outputs.
• Drive excellence in CTQ definition; dFMEA analysis and Best Practice reviews. Display a knack for complex problem solving by evaluating options and implementing solutions that address the root cause.

The Mother & Child Care Innovation site in South China (Hong Kong & ShenZhen) is part of the Innovation & Development (I&D). It is responsible for the end-to-end development and realisation of new product propositions. The Innovation site has the ambition to drive business growth by bringing new product propositions to the market. You will be working within a team of highly motivated people. Location: Shenzhen, China.

To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience

• BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology or Mechatronic Engineering.
• More than 3 years of relevant engineering experience in a field of technical product development, track-record of developing consumer related products from concept development to market launch with key involvement in the industrialization phase. Proven experience in small domestic appliances, consumer electronics is considered a strong plus.
• Integration of electrical components inside a mechanical embodiment (thermal management, EMC, wiring, PCB, display…). Knowledge on design of injection-molded & elastomeric parts (including simulation and prototyping knowledge).
• Hands-on with CAD (preferably Pro-Engineer / Cero ), knowledge of manufacturing and assembling techniques for thermos-plastics, elastomers and rubbers. Capable to challenge tool makers, molders, assembly suppliers on their technical proposals
• Qualification / Training in Design for Six Sigma; experienced in using tools and methodologies such as dFMEA; CTQ flow down; etc. Proof of statistical engineering experience and design for reliability. Capable to executive seamlessly tolerance calculations through multiple components.
• Excellent communication skills at all levels (fluent in English and Mandarin). Experiences in working with projects teams spread across multiple locations is a plus.
• Experience in working with Far-East OEM/ODM external vendors. You’re well experienced in communication with suppliers for manufacturing, cost estimation.
• Travel in South China region: ~25-30%
