As an S&T Product Development Associate, Senior, you will individually or as part of a team generates profitable, patentable, or new technical innovations. This can include reduction in the time/cost to serve, capital avoidance, new products/processes which improve SBU profitability, or innovations that establish PPG as a technical leader in a particular business. The SBU or the global organization looks to this person to solve technical problems. Also, the individual will have a working knowledge of the SBU's business, the SBU's competitors and internal PPG functions that influence the SBU's success. Demonstrates the ability to lead teams to solve technical problems and takes responsibility for communication with the team and management.

The research projects will align to PPG global and regional strategic initiatives, including Color, Mobility or Green Product technologies to accelerate XSBU new product launches and patent protection.  As one of the pioneers, the incumbents are key to building XSBU research capabilities, Center of Excellence and defense patents.  The ultimate goal is to position PPG XSBUs as innovation leader with leading products to PPG customers in high growth and profitable segments.

 

Key Responsibilities

1. Develop innovative solutions/platform/technology independently for Automotive & Industrial Coatings especially for waterborne related products.
2. Responsible for the experimental design (DOE), data analysis, reports and action plans.
3. Use fundamental principles to solve problems and identify root causes using related tools. And develop the novel testing technique and fully utilize the available resource to solve complex problem.
4. Participate in the R&D conferences as project champion, present and communicate the updates on projects progress frequently. Both written reports and live presentation are required to be in English.
5. Drive excellence in technical reporting, and where applicable, patent filing. Assist supervisor to monitor scientific literature and competitors activities.
6. Establish strong partnership with other global PPG labs across all levels of the team;
7. Collaborate with manufacturing / Customer Development team to make flawless introduction of new technologies at the customer line. Lead problem solving efforts during launch.
8. Establish trust and respect across the PPG technical community, leverage One PPG to ‘search and reapply’ technologies developed in other SBU.

Qualifications

1. Master degree or above in the field of Chemistry, polymer, material sciences, surface science or chemical engineering or related major, PhD is preferred.
2. Expertise in product development, effective with process, methodology and tools (DoE, CTQ, FMEA etc)
3. 3+ years of working experience of fundamental research, product research or development.
4. Effective project management. Proficient with Compass.  Green Belt is a plus.
5. Must have industrial experience, global experience preferred.  
6. Fluent in English and mandarin, could be independently attend skype calls globally.
