Qualifications:
Essential: Undergraduate degree in Arts or a related discipline; Good written and spoken English, CET 6 or equivalent; Ability to write an academic literature review and edit documents to publication standard; Ability to carry out qualitative research, including interviews and focus groups; Ability to organise large quantities of research data; Confident user of main IT packages such as MS Word, Excel and Powerpoint; Evidence of good research skills, e.g. high quality undergraduate dissertation; Self-motivated and able to work independently; Confident and good communicator; Able to manage own time efficiently, without supervision; Attentive to detail and accuracy in spoken and written work; Good problem solving skills; Able to travel occasionally, sometimes overnight.
Desirable: Master degree in Arts; Qualification in Translation and/or Simultaneous Translation; Familiar with database software such as MS Access or equivalent and bibliographical software such as Endnote, or equivalent; Active participation in large academic research projects resulting in the publication of academic articles and/or books; Acknowledgement of research assistance in published articles or books; Creative thinker;
Hold current driving licence; Interest in research on cultural heritage in China, media studies, art history and digital humanities.
Salary & Benefits: RMB86, 000 -RMB116, 000 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support the research work of the Dean of Faculty; research will include collaborative projects with other academics and the personal research of the Dean;
- Carry out literature reviews of Mandarin (and to a lesser extent English) language publications relating to a research project on sites of memory in post 2001 China; information is needed on Mandarin publications on cultural display, especially in the Yangste River Delta; cultural display refers to museums, temples, restaurants, theme parks and screen displays;
- Be responsible for questionnaire administration;
- Translate documents and articles from Mandarin to English;
- Carry out qualitative research including interviews with officials, curators and creative practitioners working in the cultural field; transcribe and translate the interviews;
- Conduct simultaneous translation of one-to-one or small group interviews;
- Be responsible for data collection and organisation and some administrative duties;
- Help to write and edit articles;
- Accompany the Dean on field trips to cultural sites within China and to act as an interpreter where necessary.
