POSITION SUMMARY:

    

This position assists in the specification, selection, inspection and commissioning of electrical equipment to ensure a functional system and a competitive position in the design of electrical power systems for cryogenic, hydrogen, cogeneration and chemical plants.

   

NATURE AND SCOPE:

    

This position works under the supervision of others in the electrical engineering area.  The incumbent will generally work for all projects as a member of the Project Matrix Team.

   

The incumbent is assigned a project in the proposal estimating phase.  He/She receives machine and/or process electrical load data and determines how the loads are best served technically and economically.  The incumbent then develops an electrical single line diagram and a cost estimate which defines the electrical utility service and loading, APCI substation, medium and low voltage distribution, short circuit fault levels, machine starting voltage drops, transformer ratings ratios and impedances, rotating machine ratings, types, starting torque requirements and design.  The business area may require customer contract on the engineering level at this stage.  If the project is sold, the incumbent re-verifies all the data and engineering calculations, issues specifications for all equipment to Project Engineering for purchase, evaluates vendor quotations and recommends a vendor, assists Purchasing with other technical requirements, meets with vendor engineers, reviews vendor drawings, makes protective device settings, inspects equipment in the factory, as required, has liaison contact with the field superintendent and renders commissioning assistance.  Work is directly approved by a more senior group member.

  

    

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    

1. With supervision by others, specify and select all electrical equipment for the successful operation of APCI’s cryogenic, and contracted facilities.

2. Develop electric power systems and diagrams to operate process apparatus.

3. Provide cost data for systems and apparatus to Project Development, Project Engineering and the Business Area.

4. In House electrical preliminary and details design.

5. Provide technical support to Project Engineering.

6. Record calculations pertinent to ratings, sizing, and loads for electrical equipment.

7. Coordinate with the serving power utility to develop required power for operating plants.

8. Maintain a knowledge of the state of the art of new methods and equipment.

9. Maintain project schedules and costs.

10. Participate in and grow technically from involvement with appropriate technical training or professional technical organizations.

11. Cultivate relationships with vendors to grow technically from their factory engineering expertise.

12. Be vigilant in continuing his/her electrical safety awareness personally and promote it within the group.

13. Be proficient in most of the group technical software.

14. Have Continuing or Developing ratings in personal critical skills.

     

    REQUIREMENTS

     

    BS Degree in Electrical Engineering.  Over 5 years’ experience in design institute/ or engineering company, familiar with AutoCAD, and other engineering tools. Better to have the certificate.
