POSITION PURPOSE: The R&D mechanical engineer will be a crucial contributor on Ascensia Diabetes Care’s China Innovation team developing and commercializing medical devices as we grow and expand our product offerings. This position will support a mix of local new product engineering and sustaining engineering projects, and may also include providing mentorship to more junior engineers in the future. The R&D mechanical engineer will work closely with product design, device engineering, process development, marketing, regulatory, and quality teams, while partnering with our external suppliers and vendors.

MAJOR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF POSITION:

• Collaborate with product industrial design and human factors team members to determine product design, design for manufacturability and user ergonomics.

• Actively participates in identification of potential technical problems and provides effective solutions by application of concepts, techniques, knowledge, and processes; display practical thinking in applying principles, theories, and concepts to the problems within the field of Mechanical Engineering.

• Hands-on  mechanical architecture design, analysis, documentation and functional validation of mechanical components and assemblies for self-monitoring medical device products and ancillary products

• Develop the 3D CAD, files, and 2D documentation to accurately represent Ascensia products per our design and development processes.

• Ensure successful development of production parts with your knowledge, and understanding of materials, part manufacturing methodologies, injection modeling, and rapid prototyping methods.

• Provide expertise on plastic injection molding and rapid prototyping methods including at times traveling to external vendors to resolve technical challenges.

• Partner, influence, and negotiate with vendors on project plans, cost effective design solutions, solution manufacturability, and new product launches.

• Interact across functions such as electrical, software and systems engineering to holistically arrive at optimal design solutions

• May guide and mentor team members with their day to day engineering responsibilities, professional and career development.

• Takes initiative in keeping current with technology in areas of assignment and in areas of professional interest. Incorporates right mix of new technology into new product offerings.

• Actively contributes to some combination of technological developments, publications, patents, and/or trade secrets.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

• BS with 8+ years of proven experience and accomplishments in the appropriate engineering discipline

• MS with 5+ years of proven experience and accomplishments in the appropriate engineering discipline

• PhD with 3+ year of proven experience and accomplishments in the appropriate engineering discipline

• Significant communicative and persuasive abilities are required in order to convey technical understanding to associates, superiors, and customers.

• Strong technical skills and solid understanding of mechanical engineering knowledge.

• Skilled in CAD tools including SolidWorks or ProE, etc.

• Proficient in using statistical tools such as MiniTab, Excel, etc. for DOE and scientific data analysis.

• Excellent documentation skill to generate protocols and reports.

• Previous experience in using mechanical/materials testers highly desired.

• Must be dexterous, able to operate various equipment and use different metrology tools with hands-on experience.

• Familiar with regulatory requirements for medical device and drug packaging materials (China, EU/US).

• Fluent in English and Chinese, both oral and written.

• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and influencing skills.
