Role purpose
1. Maintaining and optimizing a pipeline for nematode bioassay
2. Discovering new gene leads for the purpose of nematode control
3. Design and conduct experiments to test nematode control trait delivery strategies
4. Explore technology that could better enable nematode control trait delivery


Accountabilities
1. Maintain nematode culture on host plant and provide nematodes to the bioassay pipeline
2. Conduct nematode bioassays on plant tissue and report the results
3. Constantly explore and implement new methodology to improve the data quality and throughput of the nematode bioassay pipeline
4. Identify genes leads and develop novel strategies for nematode control
5. A bench scientist who can design and conduct experiments independently and professionally
6. Work with other group members to achieve the goals as a team


Knowledge, experience & capabilities
Critical knowledge
1. A PhD degree with postdoc experience in plant nematology, microbiology,biochemistry,plant pathology, molecular or a related field is required
2. Broad knowledge in plant parasitic nematode biology, plant-nematode interaction, biochemistry or genetics of nematodes, or on control of plant parasitic nematodes,

or on biology of entomopathogenic nematodes
3. An strong interest in and knowledge of agricultural biotechnology is necessary

Critical experience
1. Plant parasitic nematode maintenance and bioassay on in vitro plant tissues
2. Experience in functional genomic research towards the discovery of gene leads for nematode control
3. Experience with any other types of GM nematode control research is a plus
4. Industrial experience is a plus
5. Working in a team environment

Critical technical, professional and personal capabilities
1. Plant nematology lab and greenhouse skills
2. Molecular biology and basic bioinformatics skills
3. Detail oriented, with strong troubleshooting abilities
4. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written in English
