Novartis Biologics is a dedicated biologics discovery and development organization. Over the past several years, Novartis has had the greatest number of new molecular entities approved by the FDA for clinical use in the US. Novartis Biologics was established to accelerate the advancement of its rich biologics pipeline. It is dedicated to delivering new biologic therapies that improve the lives of patients. Novartis Biologics is entering a new phase of growth and we are seeking an innovative and energetic scientist and outstanding leader to direct and shape a newly formed antibody discovery group in Shanghai, China. Interested candidates will have substantial industry experience in antibody discovery and generation, focusing on both traditional hybridoma technique and high throughput in vitro B cell selection, antibody humanization, expression and characterization. Candidates should have a good understanding of the biological and pharmacological principles relevant to therapeutic antibody discovery and development.

Summary:
? Report to the Global Head of Protein Sciences and Design, Novartis Biologics.
? Establish a therapeutic antibody discovery powerhouse, including a state-of-the art and highly efficient hybridoma group and a high throughput in vitro B cell section group, in Shanghai, China.
? Responsible for the build up and management of a group of approximately 10 staffs, with potential growth, focusing on therapeutic antibody discovery, and researching and developing of novel therapeutic antibody platforms. This group interacts with discovery and development groups that are already established within Novartis.
? Contribute to strategic and scientific activities related to the discovery and design of therapeutic antibodies and novel technology platforms.

Responsibilities:
? Responsible for building up and managing the antibody discovery group in Shanghai, China. Manage lab resources and assess performance of associates.
? Work closely with colleagues of other functional areas at Novartis, will formulate, drive and deliver the strategy for therapeutic antibody discovery and generation in China for Novartis Biologics



? Identify, evaluate and manage appropriate outside research collaborations and alliances, in collaboration with PSD groups in Cambridge and Basel
? Work with IP to formulate an IP strategy for Protein Sciences and Design in China

Keyword: CNIBR, NIBR Shanghai? This role requires a PhD and/or MD in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or Immunology and a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in the biotechnology industry.
? Strong team-working focus and excellent communications and inter-personal skills.
? Strong proven track record in the discovery and generation of therapeutic antibodies. Solid knowledge and hands-on working experience in hybridoma generation and antibody humanization required.
? Management experience in a biotechnology or pharmaceutical company with demonstrated track-record of outstanding leadership.
? Industrial experience in taking antibody therapeutics from discovery stage to clinical development a strong plus.
? Fluent in both English and Mandarin a must.
