Background:

Candidate must have experience working in a tool shop or molding shop as a plastic injection mold maker or plastic mold designer for a minimum of ten years. Experience should be primarily in highly cosmetic consumer electronic enclosures. Knowledge of complex mold design, tool steel selection, plastic materials and all related knowledge is required. Experience working with product designers and negotiating DFM with suppliers is required. Knowledge of processing is also required. Candidate should be familiar with managing all aspects of part development including working with ID/PD and other internal customers, managing suppliers, and taking full responsibility for ensuring parts are designed for manufacturability. This candidate must be able to take full responsibility for parts assigned, and work independently. Candidate will work from a home office and travel to suppliers as needed.

Job description

l Management of overall manufacturing operations for plastics;

l Provide tooling and plastics design and manufacturing expertise to dev team;

l Interface with hardware development groups, hardware manufacturing, and suppliers to define and manage manufacturing strategies for injection mold tooling, injection molding, cosmetic part decorating and labeling, and manufacturing operations;

l Troubleshoot, contain, and resolve manufacturing issues related to injection mold processing, injection mold tooling, die stamping, pad-printing, painting, and tooling issues;

l Establish tooling specifications for new hardware products (including cost analysis; vendor selection, tooling design, first article inspection, process verification, and scheduling);

l Develop contingency and risk mitigation plans;

l Provide insight into supply base capability, and leverage opportunities to more effectively utilize supplier capability for injection molded plastics tooling and manufacturing. Deliverables: Tooling schedule, RFQ tooling, Tooling spec & Inspection, tool drawings & control dimensions, Tooling buy-off form signed, Plastics supplier, Assembler, Tooler signed-off, Tooling certification Form, Tooling design review summary, Tooling cost summaries, Tooling change log.

Requirement

l Thorough technical understanding of thin walled injection molding process, tooling design and manufacture;

l Ideal candidate should possess a broad technical background relating to high volume manufacturing processes, and provide or facilitate technical direction related to the producability of part designs using Injection molding, progressive stamping/forming dies, die castings, CNC production volume machining.

l A high level knowledge of common quality metrics and continuous improvement techniques such as Statistics process control, Design of experiment, Gage R&R & Failure mode effective analysis;

l Expertise in SPC, manufacturing production qualification, supplier assessment and selection.
