Aerospace Engineering & Technologies (E&T) China Team, as part of Honeywell Technology Solutions China an integrated R&D center of Honeywell in China, is a multi-disciplinary team with over 10 years of contributions to Honeywell’s development in the aerospace industry in China. As one of the largest aerospace R&D engineering team in MNC in China, Honeywell Aerospace E&T China team has over 400 scientists and engineers working in various global Center of Excellence of Mechanical and Electronics products and on aircraft programs globally. The team is committed to developing the leading edge and differentiated Aerospace technologies and products and to fulfilling the demanding and challenging duties in a learning-intensive environment.
Aerospace E&T China currently has an opening for a Principal Research Engineer focusing in Mechanical Components in Shanghai, China. This position is for a Principal Investigator and Research Engineer in Mechanical Component Technology development within the Advanced Technology organization. The successful candidate will be part of a multi-disciplinary global research team in new technologies, materials, and manufacturing processes of mechanical components and sub-systems in Engine and aircraft mechanical systems.
Overall responsibilities of this position include: technical leadership; project scope and plan definition; and project execution including cost control, schedule, and risk management. The successful candidate will lead engineers from the Mechanical Center of Excellence and other disciplines, interface with internal leaders, external customers and partners, Advanced Manufacturing Engineers, Procurement and suppliers, Chief Engineers and resident experts to accomplish project and assignments on Advanced Technology development programs from Technology Readiness Level 1 (concept development) through Technology Readiness Level 6 (advanced prototypes validated in a relevant system environment). As the project owner, this position is the single point of accountability for the project(s).
This candidate will grow into the Subject Matter Expert in the Mechanical Components, serves as primary technical resources for the Product Line management, well understand the industry trend and industry standard, be the go to person in the organization in the domain, connect to Chinese industry and Academia in related field, contribute knowledge to internal and external publication and presentation, and coach and develop young engineers.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelors Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or a related field.
12 plus years of directly related Aerospace Industry experience in system design, development, or manufacturing of aircraft systems and engines’ mechanical components and sub-systems, including but not limiting to valves, pumps, flow-meters, and actuators powered by hydraulic, pneumatic, or electric.
Minimum of 5 year’s experience in project leadership or program management
Experience in fluid mechanics and thermodynamics with good knowledge of Simulation and Modeling and other experimental measurements and design/analysis methodology development and tools
Knowledge of first principles and developing approaches to solving ill-defined, complex engineering problems
System concept and Data driven decision making
Experience with Aerospace standards, Qualification and Certification
Self-starter and team player with the ability to successfully manage multiple tasks
Strong leadership and problem solving skills; ability to positively influence others
Excellent written and oral communication skill with internal and external customers
Excellent customer focus
Additional Desirable Qualifications
Advanced degree a plus
Engineer/Scientist/Program Manager with ability to ideate and develop creative and innovative concepts for aerospace mechanical component products and sub-systems
Familiar with Industry Technology Research programs, connection with the industry, and proven records of patents and publications.
Experience in Mechanical system controls and Predictive Health Maintenance
Experience in new product development, qualification/certification and transition to production
Ability to translate customer requirements into system, product and component requirements
Ability to perform engineering trade studies
Self-driven to expand technical breadth and its applications to new business directions and Value Engineering; proposal writing experience a plus
Ability to identify risks early and develop swift and effective corrective action plans
Proven track record of meeting technical, schedule and budget commitments while satisfying internal and external customers.
