Job Outline
Under the supervision of director of library, collaborate with academic staff and team members within Library Services (UNNC) to provide consultation and support in the building and utilization of academic resources in the library; to provide information skills training to staff and students in university; to support university researchers in using library resources and utilizing data analysis tools.

Qualifications
Essential
- Good degree (preferably in a relevant subject) or equivalent;
- Library and information studies qualification or equivalent;
- Excellent communications and interpersonal skills;
 -Excellence in organization/administration skills;
- Excellence in self-learning awareness;
- Excellent user of information tools including Microsoft office, wiki, blog etc.;
- Experience of a customer service environment;
- Experience of training users;
- Experience of using online information resources;
- Fluency in English (spoken and written) is essential;
- Positive approach to customer care;
- Committed team member;
- Ability to prioritise work under pressure;
- Ability to work on own initiative;
- Flexible approach to working;
- Ability to work accurately and pay attention to detail.
Desirable
- Postgraduate qualification in relevant subject or postgraduate qualification in Library / Information Science or related discipline;
- Knowledge and awareness of recent developments in the field of Education;
- Project management skills;
- Knowledge and understanding of academic library and information services within a large research-led university;
- Familiarity with data analysis software;
- Experience of planning & delivering information skills programmes;
- Experience of teaching;
- Good oral Chinese (Mandarin) language skills, if not first language.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. To liaise with academic staff and students in order to match information needs with available resources, and to publicise new resources and services offered by Library Services:
‐ through formal channels with departmental library liaison representatives, School Library User Groups, Staff Student Consultative Committees and departmental meetings, and informally with all members of the School
‐ by initiating contact with new academic staff
‐ by alerting the School to new resources or developments within Library Services
‐ by responding to new course developments
‐ by promoting and publicising VLE and portal services
2. To initiate, design, promote, deliver and evaluate Information Skills teaching programmes to programmes to academic staff and students to ensure that they have appropriate information-handling skills to exploit the wide range of information resources available, employing a variety of methods and technologies:
‐ to provide hands-on training to reinforce theoretical teaching on an individual basis and through delivering workshops to groups
‐ to contribute to assessed modules to show the relevance of resources to the academic curriculum
‐ to create material for inclusion in Moodle to support online and distance learning
‐ to encourage the integration of information skills into Schools’ programmes to ensure their timely and effective delivery
3. To act as a consultant in specialist academic library resources to answer a wide range of complex enquiries and provide advice on the efficient and effective use of information, including current awareness mechanisms to support the research, teaching and practitioner needs of the School and other library users:
‐ to acquire and maintain expertise in the application of complex information resources to solve a variety of problems in order to retrieve required information and to advise others in search techniques
‐ to maintain skills of using related research tools (including data analysis) to train and assist users.
‐ to maintain an awareness of information resources and new developments relating to the subject areas of interest to schools
‐ to update knowledge of rapidly changing information resources and delivery modes
‐ to respond to enquiries received in person, by telephone or email
‐ to assist users at the point of need to exploit the wide range of available printed and electronic resources
‐ to trouble-shoot difficulties that users encounter when exploiting electronic resources
4. To acquire and maintain subject knowledge and understanding of the research and teaching information needs. To enable the development of a current and effective collection of information resources available to support these needs:
‐ to evaluate, select and manage printed and electronic resources to support the teaching and research needs of the School
‐ to promote printed and electronic resources and provide guidance in their use, through the design and creation of publicity materials including information leaflets and guides to electronic resources
5. To provide support and documentation for academic staff involved in QAA, the Research Assessment Exercise, and professional accreditation visits;
6. To contribute to the development of Library Services strategy and the Connected Campus by contributing to project proposals:
‐ to liaise with colleagues throughout libraries across campuses, and particularly with School/Faculty leaders and other School Librarians, to maintain awareness of potential developments and plan for their implementation
‐ to manage and/or participate in Divisional and Connected Campus projects
7. To contribute to the day-to-day running of subject services in the library to ensure that a reliable service is maintained by:
‐ Managing rotas
‐ Designing and delivering staff training programmes in aspects of subject work to enhance staff performance and to enable staff to deliver a quality service - this includes induction training for new staff and refresher sessions for existing staff
8. Any other duties appropriate to the grade and role of the person appointed;
9. Participate in training and staff development schemes as trainer or trainee as appropriate;
10. Maintain appropriate professional development, expertise and awareness;
11. Undertake other tasks and responsibilities as may reasonably be required.
