职位描述：
With supervision from the Manager or Sr.Packaging Engineer mentor, the position facilitates the design and development of packaging solutions for new/existing products. Provides support in implementing these solutions by working with vendors to develop designs, issue specifications and bill of materials, propose alternatives, test packaging materials and identify new designs. This position is responsible for forward looking packaging solutions for all classes of trade. This includes partnering with marketing to identify packaging solutions required and partner with vendor base and engineering team to develop solutions.
Major Duties/Responsibilities:
1. ? With supervision from manager of packaging development or Senior Packaging Engineer, Review, recommend, test and implement various proposals for packaging design. Collaborate with project initiator on project objectives and expectations.
? Utilize various packaging material substrates in the design of primary, secondary and tertiary packaging that minimizes material usage and labor implications while enhancing retail acceptance.
? Determines impact on new packaging design to existing and new automation at manufacturing locations.
? Modify designs accordingly to optimize manufacturing and labor efficiency. Recommend, select and execute packaging designs.
? Develop design of experiment/test methodologies on packaging materials.
? Responsible for determining packaging material specifications to maintain product integrity. This includes development of appropriate design to maximize long term quality and shelf life of product while minimizing cost.
? Conduct analytical testing on materials and interpret data findings. Propose design recommendations to customer as a result of findings.
? Ensure project success by keeping project on schedule through written and oral correspondence while evaluating technical data, i.e. lab results, collaborative tests, distribution tests and line trials.
? Develop and maintain a professional knowledge of new and emerging trends in packaging technology. Identify areas of opportunity to implement these new technologies into packaging solutions.
? Assess and resolve packaging design problems on existing items. Work with team members to implement quality processes and system improvements as a result of findings to ensure long term corrective actions. This includes better product presentation at retail. Manage multiple projects to meet established timelines.
2. ? Ensures the accuracy of specifications issued, including mechanical drawings and written text.
? Prepare and provide cost estimates for new packaging materials.
? Identify potential cost implications to all areas of the business regarding packaging changes and communicate impact to industrial engineering.
? Develop packaging bill of materials and enter into project management system for manufacturing/co-pack implementation.

3. ? Identifies and initiates packaging studies aimed at decreasing costs, reducing material usage while maintaining product/cosmetic integrity.
? Partner with procurement on implementation of cost reduction initiatives.
? Conduct value analysis and cost reduction activities on packaging materials and labor reduction.
? Review internal (Hershey) and external (customer) data to investigate and develop causation of packaging failure and develop/implement corrective actions accordingly.
? Identify areas of opportunity to standardize materials to realize volume leverage pricing for packaging components

Requirements:
? Basic understanding of other team members’ duties and responsibilities.
? Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects.

? Demonstrated problem solving skills.

? Knowledge or experience of Illustrator, Photoshop and AutoCAD software, and basic understanding of printing technologies are preferred
Education: BS in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related science field or 0-3 years experience in Packaging Development.
