When you are a Shared Services Payroll Manager at Caterpillar, you will manage a Payroll Shared Services organization that services multiple business units and locations. You will ensure employees receive timely, accurate pay per Caterpillar pay practices.
Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
* Provide leadership to the daily payroll operations to ensure timely, accurate pay for all employees served. Establish processes and procedures to support the execution of Caterpillar pay practices. Ensure the execution of the processes and procedures by subordinates.
* Execute processes to support payroll accounting and tax requirements that are required by the region served.
* Ensure standard processes are established and executed in a common manner across multiple locations served by the Shared Service organization. Work with business units to eliminate stand along payroll operations and move their payroll processing to Shared Services. Identify and resolve any problems before integration.
* Manage the payroll customer service for internal customers that includes Employees, Corporate HR, Business Unit and Facility HR, Labor Relations, and Corporate Auditing. Meet established metrics that measure the performance of payroll customer service. Resolve escalated customer service issues. Provide in-depth analysis and consult on the most complex pay and tax issues.
* Provide guidance and assist in the development of new pay practices and requests from business units in accordance to government policies, taxation rules, labor contracts, and business unit locality concerns. Assess new business conditions, to determine feasibility and impact of implementation on payroll and interfacing systems.
* Identify and implement process improvements to maintain current staffing/budget levels while supporting a growing organization. Implement payroll best practices to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of Caterpillar Payroll services as measured by the Hackett Benchmark.
* Manage relationship with provider of the payroll software. Review and approve support and maintenance agreements with the vendor. Ensure the vendor delivers a quality service to Caterpillar.
* Ensure that Payroll operations and data processing are Sarbanes Oxley compliant.
* Serve as project sponsor, green belt, and SME on 6 Sigma teams as needed.
* Coach, mentor, and develop a team of both support and management payrolls. Execute behaviors and tasks to support Caterpillar leader expectations. Manage a work unit of management and salaried employees where planning, scheduling, and monitoring and reviewing work of subordinates is required after completion as well as training, developing, and mentoring. Responsible for all personnel issues, performance evaluation, and career counseling of subordinates.
Required Qualifications:
* Minimum of a Bachelors degree in accounting, tax or business with a strong accounting/math background and the ability to analyze complex taxing and pay requirements.
* Minimum of 5 to 8 years of accounting or business background.
* Knowledge of various Caterpillar personnel and/or labor contracts, compensation pay practices, individual Business Unit pay practices, and governmental policies.
* Ability to maintain confidentiality
* Excellent interpersonal skills to deal with sensitive issues, develop others, or persuade others inside and outside the department to take specific actions.
Desired Qualifications:
* Familiar with company policies and procedures with a strong department background.
* Able to build strong relationships with various stakeholders.
