Color Material Designer (CMD)

Microsoft Device Design Team
            
The Microsoft Device Design Studio is building a world class team. This is the team concepting future experiences and crafting the products that will deliver delightful entertainment experiences for millions of people around the world.
We are seeking to add members assigned to our Microsoft Asian Center for Hardware located in either Shenzhen or Suzhou, PRC.

This is unprecedented opportunity to impact Microsoft’s device lines including Xbox, Surface, Surface Studio, Hololens, and PC Accessories that will be challenging and rewarding for the right candidate.

Purpose
Your ability to develop and deliver innovative technologies, new materials and advanced manufacturing processes that enable groundbreaking products is critical. This position will require a hands-on, collaborative person who will build strong strategic partnerships with Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing and Materials Suppliers to deliver pioneering product solutions.

Responsibilities
? Creation of cosmetic specifications and standards for material design.
? Utilize color, gloss, surface roughness and metrology tools to characterize cosmetic finishes.
? Develop standards and limits for cosmetic defects that impact product quality.
? Work to quantify and provide insight to unique device level defects.
? Actively pursue material design alternatives interfacing with program managers, engineers, manufacturing partners, and executive leadership roles.
? Champion the fit and finish of devices and system assemblies for premium quality products.
? Apply design principles to piece part or assemblies to create a material design portfolio for development during the end-to-end process.
? Provide leadership with suppliers and supply chain driving design intent and premium product quality requirements.
? Ensuring seamless communication between supply chain, internal Microsoft development partners, and US based device design team.
? Understand the impacts of quality and costs to decision making processes.
? Utilize quality tools such as AR&R, Vision inspection systems, cosmetic defect classification, inspection audits, yield reports, process capability studies, reliability reports, etc.

Requirements
? 8+ years’ solid experience specific to design execution of consumer electronics, innovative materials and manufacturing.
? A bachelor’s degree in industrial design, product design, mechanical, material science or process engineering.
? Deep knowledge of materials, decoration methods and manufacturing processes common to the consumer electronics industry.
? Senior level experience designing innovative and complex products within a collaborative global environment delivering within deadlines.
? Able to develop and apply new technologies and materials to real world consumer products partnering with global suppliers to enhance cosmetic quality or create product differentiation.
? A strong portfolio demonstrating breadth and creativity in successful product design, versatility with design and rapid prototyping tools and methods, and a strong understanding of color theory and the creative process.
? Strong visual and communication skills in both Mandarin and English with ability document and coordinate cosmetic reviews.
? Proven ability to utilize design tools (Illustrator, Photoshop, 3D tools, etc.).
? Must meet the requirements for the Farnsworth Munsell 100 Hue Color Vision Test.
? Willing to travel within Asia or Overseas up to 50 percent. 举报 分享
