Responsibilities include the following:
o Consult with stakeholders to determine requirements for designs. This requires close collaboration with product management and the user research team.
o Deep understanding of the persona(s) who will interact with a particular product, and the various ways it might be used. This could entail customer visits, and close collaboration with the user research team,
o Sketch out ideas and/or create renderings that help the design team and/or stakeholders visualize design ideas. An iterative design process is critical to validate/disprove hypotheses, and help uncover the core user needs we are attempting to address.
o Use the latest in 3D rendering and animation software to develop virtual models of different designs.
o Create physical prototypes of designs, including 3D prints and high-fidelity mockups.
o Create designs with strong consideration of materials and manufacturing processes. This individual is expected to have strong knowledge on material properties, and their implication regarding color/materials/finishes (CMF) and operations/manufacturing.
o Examine materials and production costs to determine manufacturing requirements
o Work with other specialists such as mechanical engineers or manufacturers to evaluate whether their design concepts will fill a need at a reasonable cost
o Evaluate product safety, appearance, and function to determine if a design is practical
Present designs and demonstrate prototypes to clients for approval


Additional Job Description
Analytical skills. Ability to use logic or reasoning skills to study consumers and recognize the need for new products.
Artistic ability. Must be able to express their design through illustration or sketch.
Computer skills. Proficient with leading CAD and rendering software to develop designs and create prototypes. This includes SolidWorks, Creo, Rhino, KeyShot etc.
Creativity. Must be innovative in their designs and the ways in which they integrate existing technologies into our new products.
Design Trends. Strong awareness of the latest design trends in consumer electronics, interior design, automotive design, and more.
Interpersonal skills. Develop cooperative working relationships with clients and colleagues who specialize in related disciplines. This includes working with a globally dispersed development and management team.
Mechanical skills. Strong understanding of how products are engineered, at least for the types of products that we design.
Materials knowledge. Strong understanding of material properties, the pros and cons of a particular material, and the manufacturing/cost implications.
Manufacturing knowledge and experience. Strong understanding of how the latest products are manufactured, including the steps required and implications of particular materials and finishes.
Problem-solving skills. Ability to identify complex design problems such as the need, size, and cost of a product, anticipate production issues, develop alternatives, evaluate options, and implement solutions.
Education
A bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design, Architecture, or Engineering is required. Design programs should include fundamental training for design: sketching, computer-aided design, industrial materials and processes, and manufacturing methods.
5+ years’ experience in either industry or a consultancy. 举报 分享
