Job Outline

The role holder is expected to manage the Technical Services Team within the Faculty of Science and Engineering (FOSE), to provide with a high standard of technical support, and to enable academic staff and students to carry out research and teaching projects in a safe manner. The successful candidate will be responsible for the development and implementation of procedures and standards at the UNNC, which are consistent with those at the University of Nottingham.

Qualifications
Essential
? Engineering/science degree or equivalent;
? Excellent communication and presentation skill in English;
? Proven high level of planning and organisation skills and resource management;
? Excellent analytical and problem solving capability;
? Proven experience in the identification and development of training for technical staff;
? More than 3 years of work experience in a relevant technical management/supervisory role;
? Proven skills in the effective management of people;
? Proven technical specialist knowledge and understanding in own technical area;
? Ability to communicate clearly to non-specialist and senior level audiences;
? Proven ability to persuade, motivate and lead;
? Interpretation and implementation of work related regulations and procedures and an understanding of non-compliance on other staff and the University (e.g. Health and Safety);
? Self-confident, independent, polite and gentle;
? Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment;
? Ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural environment;
? Ability to work to deadlines and to prioritise tasks.

Desirable
? Excellent computer and technical drawing skills;
? Working knowledge of the design of engineering equipment;
? Experience of implementing capital expenditure projects.


Main Duties and Responsibilities
? Manage, motivate and lead a team of highly qualified engineering technicians in order to support teaching and research activities to high standards within agreed targets.
? Be responsible for the management of FOSE’s budget for consumables, repairing and maintenance.
? Establish and manage the laboratory and workshop facilities within FOSE.
? Ensure the provision of technical services within FOSE.
? Responsible for the efficient and effective management / operation of the FOSE and laboratories.
? Assist in other Faculty areas as required.
? Liaise with the University of Nottingham and University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus with regards to laboratory requirements.
? Advise and assist both academic staff and students in the design, construction and provision of laboratory research equipment and project work.
? Be responsible for the procurement of new facilities for both teaching and research and work with procurement office and other colleagues in the identification, specification, negotiation, implementation and commissioning of new facilities within agreed time scales and costs.
? Be responsible for all aspects of Health and Safety within the areas including risk assessments and keep up to date with regulations.
? Take a lead in the maintenance, repairing, upgrading and general housekeeping of workshop and laboratory areas within FOSE.
? Participate in training and staff development schemes as trainer or trainee as appropriate.
? Maintain appropriate professional development, expertise and awareness.
? Undertake other tasks and responsibilities as may reasonably be required.
