Job Purpose:

Under general direction, the senior development engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining electro-mechanical push button products.
Key Responsibilities
The senior development engineer develops products to marketing specifications, provides product support to different product lines, conducts qualification testing, and coordinates with other companies for joint development of products.
Conduct tasks in accordance with applicable health, safety, quality and environmental regulations (state regulations, ISO 9000, ISO 14000, etc) as well as the company policies and procedures.
The senior development engineer has a history of favorably performing these duties and has established him/her self as a "center of excellence" for particular technologies, applications, methodologies and industry standards.
KEY COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS
Organizational Competencies(Critical competencies required for the position under each of the below 4 dimensions)
Functional
Develop general design layouts of product concept alternatives on assigned projects and support activities. Work with members of the project team to establish a desired direction for each design strategy.
Develop computer-based solid model designs based on selected concepts using an engineering Pro/Engineer workstation and other appropriate design tools.
Determine design features and select materials that are consistent with economical manufacturing processes, considering functionality, quality, safety, aesthetics, cost, schedule, and process capability.
Develop appropriate test plans and implement them to confirm product design requirements. Provide documentation of test results and take appropriate corrective action when required.
Utilize effective time management methods to manage the daily and long range workload.
Utilize project scheduling and coordination skills to plan projects and keep them on schedule. Make effective design and business decisions as they relate to product designs, modifications, applications, costs, etc. Keep management appropriately informed regarding progress, accomplishments, risks, etc.
Be proficient in project coordination, scheduling and cost estimating.
Support existing assigned product lines in an effort to improve product yield, quality, performance, and to reduce cost.
Select materials, surface treatments, and hardware with knowledge of industry standards and agency listings.
Analyze returned product for cause of failure and corrective action.
Interpersonal
Create and maintain solid model databases, electronic data transfer files, detailed piece part drawings, assembly drawings, and other appropriate documentation for use by manufacturing functions. Work with manufacturing functions to provide information/documentation to assure quality.
Work with both internal and external resources to obtain physical models when required for evaluation, testing, or design review. Assemble and evaluate the models to assure design accuracy.
Continually seek ways to maximize personal contribution to the business. Be a department "center of excellence" for particular technologies, applications, methodologies and industry standards as assigned. Participate on task forces and undertake appropriate non-design assignments when requested.
Working with team members, develop new and modify existing products using efficient and effective engineering.
Business
Ensures thorough familiarity with company policies and procedures. Appropriately applies policies and procedures in compliance with government laws. Policies and procedures include, but not limited to: Standards of Business Conduct, Intellectual Property, Control Environment, Information Protection, ISO 9000 & 14000, government regulations (e.g. health, safety, quality and environmental), and functional policies published on the the company Information Network.
Maintain an awareness of applicable new technologies, components, design methodologies, industry standards, and competitive products.
Ensures thorough familiarity with policies and procedures relating to standards of business conduct, and trains and motivates subordinates in the importance of full compliance with the letter and spirit of such policies and procedures.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS / WORK EXPERIENCE
(Education, qualifications and experience requirements an employee must have)
BS in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical-Electronic Engineering preferred.
Minimum 5 years in Product Development.
Experience with molded plastic, die-cast, machined, rubber, and stamped metal part and assembly designs, as well as material selection based on the required performance and cost constraints.
Efficient use of Pro/E solid modeling and other CAD/CAE tools for design.
Familiar with statistical tolerancing, geometric tolerancing and engineering drawing requirements.
Familiar with electro-mechanical device manufacturing, production, and quality control process.
Familiar with first article inspection reports and statistical analysis of inspection data.
Sufficient familiarity with finite element analysis principals to be able to request analysis.
Strong team builder and player.
Ability to work independently on global business environment, support marketing and manufacturing needs.
Focus on problem solving.
Willing to travel internationally.
Excellent English communication skills.
Project management experience will be desirable.
