Job Outline
To take a lead on, and be accountable for, the successful administration of learning systems for high-profile technology enabled learning projects and activities. Working with staff at all levels within the Learning Technology Section, the wider LRLR Department and colleagues across the Faculty, this role will assume responsibility for supporting the administration, maintenance and deployment of the University’s core learning technologies.
The post is crucial in providing central administration and technical support for LRLR learning systems, ensuring the smooth operation, problem resolution, system upgrades, and seasonal support activities to underpin the provision of 21st century online learning environment at the University. In addition, the role holder will complete and update required technical support documentation to ensure service provision and continuity planning.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Service Delivery (80%):
? Continual review and recommendation of required upgrade and maintenance activities underpinning all supported learning technologies;
? Learning systems administration and development to deliver a reliable, robust and responsive service within a user-centred IT framework;
? In collaboration with colleagues in IT Services contribute to application installation, updates/patches, security and backup of University learning systems;
? Oversee the integration and extension of the learning systems through third party and University created extensions, ensuring their suitability for use at Nottingham;
? Work with colleagues within the University where necessary on documentation for end-users (staff and students);
? Provide administrative lead for all learning systems supported within the Learning Technology Section, ensuring the delivery of a reliable and robust user-centred service;
? To evaluate new and emerging learning tools and technologies for the potential integration within the current IT infrastructure, including mobile delivery;
? To manage a programme of work to meet the required strategic objectives including completing the required development activities;
? Dissemination of specialist knowledge/technical skills to other colleagues where required. Time/task management within the scope of a project in order to ensure prompt delivery;
? Work with user community on the identification, management and prioritisation of development requests and enhancements;
? Contribute to the Learning Technology roadmap;
Planning, organising and liaison (10%):
? To explore appropriate strategies and project manage the deployment/integration of learning technologies for use on a variety of platforms (including mobile technologies);
? Consulting and co-operating with colleagues within the Learning Technology Section to advise, facilitate and advance the support of learning systems within the University, in line with the University’s teaching and learning strategy;
? To promote, provide training, and raise awareness throughout the University in order to enhance current, and future, teaching and learning activities;
? Provide timely and proactive second line out-of-hours technical support as required for core learning systems;
Continuous Development and Improvement (10%):
? Liaising with the appropriate project board or development group and other customers within the University to ascertain requirements, resolve issues, advise on queries and pass on information;
? To actively participate in the Learning Technology Section team in order to facilitate communication within the Section;
? To participate in LRLR projects to enhance the service;
? Network with colleagues in other HE or external organisations to explore engagement opportunities in order to generate mutually supportive partnerships;
? Presentation of written or oral reports on projects and initiatives;
? Representation of the Team/Section on LRLR/University working/collaborative groups and at national conference, committees, etc.

Qualifications
Essential
? First degree (or equivalent) or substantial relevant experience;
? Expert knowledge in the administration of virtual learning environments, in particular Moodle;
? Knowledge of e-learning/distance learning methodologies;
? Practical experience of design and development of learning systems within the HE sector;
? Good oral and written communication skills;
? Organisational, planning and prioritisation skills;
? Good English in speaking and writing;
? Significant experience of software application delivery and learning support services
? Demonstrable experience of working with academics in HE to promote and support Technology Enhanced Learning, esp. Virtual Learning Environments;
? Working with academics in HE to design and develop Technology Enhanced Learning solutions;
? Ability to work in a team environment, supporting colleagues and sharing expertise;
? Ability to work to deadlines and deal with unforeseen issues and changing circumstances;
? Ability to present complex technical concepts in a clear manner;
? Ability to contribute to strategic planning;
? Proven communication and interpersonal skills;
? Critical thinking and problem solving skills;
? Enthusiastic and proactive ‘can do’ approach;
? Team player and willingness to be flexible and adaptable, to both audience and priorities;
? Customer focused;
Desirable
? Postgraduate qualification in computing;
? Additional qualifications in PHP, an SQL database or web development;
? Knowledge of distance and e-learning pedagogies and their application in HE;
? Experience of mobile learning development and associated technologies;
? Knowledge of e-learning standards and their application (IMS, IEEE, SCORM etc.);
? Knowledge of accessibility issues and their application to e-learning materials;
? Knowledge of open access and its application to HE;
? Experience of working with open source software solutions, especially Moodle;
? Demonstrable ability to identify new opportunities and creative solutions;
? Demonstrable commitment to the promotion of learning technology in HE;
? Thorough awareness of teaching methods employed within HE, especially with regard to e-learning;
? Experience of project recovery – i.e. ability to analyse, trouble-shoot, and problem-solve.
