1.0 Job Title:
Manager, Plant
2.0 JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating all manufacturing operations of production, and maintenance, departments. Develop priorities based on production introduction, equipment efficiency, and materials. Create schedules and staffing requirements based on determined priorities. Establish manufacturing and quality control standards and develop budget controls and plans.
3.0 RESPONSIBILITIES (IN ORDER OF IMPORTANCE):
Lead and maintain department lean initiatives as set out in LPS system requirements.
Maintain department 5S requirements.
Lead & drive COMMWIP & Waste elimination activities
Allocate work to each production and maintenance supervisor.
Forecast future work assignments.
Co-ordinate the scheduling of all machines to make efficient use of the complete facility.
Supervise maintenance requirements to ensure that downtime is minimized and productivity maintained, lead and drive equipment TPM activities
Ensure that all required tooling and programming is available as required by production.
Review the preparation of all process sheets to ensure that correct manufacturing is performed.
Ensure proper supervision is maintained in all areas of the plant as required.
Ensure that jobs are manufactured in the most efficient manner.
Maintain regular liaison with supervisors relating to production problems and needs to meet company demands.
Review delivery requirements and machine production to eliminate missed commitments and improper manufacturing.
Provide necessary support to purchasing department on material requisitions.
Review and authorize necessary overtime required to meet customer deliveries.
Ensure that proper wage rates are maintained for work performed.
Assisting with priorities and resources for maintenance.
4.0 ACADEMIC / EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
A university degree or college diploma in administration, manufacturing, or a related discipline.
5.0 REQUIRED SKILLS / EXPERIENCE:
At least six years of related experience, including supervision.
Communicate with customers regarding solving problem. Network with other facilities and other managers to exchange information and solve problems. Instruct staff regarding adherence to health and safety regulations. Hold staff meetings in order to make announcements, review policies and procedures and discuss problems (Communication ES Level 3).
Make decisions about suggestions for change. Respond to customer complaints. Make decisions about hiring and firing staff (Thinking ES Level 3).
Produce and interpret charts and pie graphs showing, for example, marketing summaries or percentage comparisons. Complete legal forms for the facility. Read minutes of meetings in order to keep up-to-date and to plan (Document ES Level 2)
Compare budgets to actual expenditures and make financial projections (Numeracy ES Level 4).
Ability to work independently and participate in a team setting. Participate in group discussions on methods for improving work processes or product quality and the allocation of work responsibilities and goals. Meet with: department heads and supervisors (daily); committee members who discuss operations, policies and procedures (when necessary); staff (periodically) (Working with Others ES Level 3).
Ability to use various computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint. Ability to track expenses and run projections (Computer ES Level 3).
Engage in ongoing learning through participation in professional organizations, seminars, formal courses, conferences and trade shows. Upgrade skills by attending conferences and networking functions, by liaising with industry associations, and by taking management classes through educational institutions (Learning ES Level 2).
