1. Company in brief
Our client is the leading supplier of auto glass and shop accessories, with more than 100 distribution branches throughout the U.S. and Canada.
2. Information about the assignment
Position: Quality Supervisor
Report to: Quality Systems Manager
Location: Zibo, Shandong, China
Main responsibilities:
Ensure the successful performance of the organization through the use of strong quality processes in all aspects of the company. Provide leadership in the areas of customer interface and certification of the proper use of quality standards. Use training and utilization of proper quality tools in the areas of problem solving, lean principles, six-sigma, process capability, quality product testing and KPI development for optimizing process efficiency. Ensure that every person and process in the organization understands and uses quality systems correctly and with ease.
Customers – Act as company’s primary contact for customers relative to product and process capability. Ensure company fully understands and meets all customer quality system expectations and qualifications. Oversee involvement in quality certification programs and self-development systems.
Supervision – Ensure the local QC and Instrument Technicians are well supervised and productive. Use Teambuilding, Training, KPI’s, Communication and Problem Solving strategies to ensure a responsible, safe and efficient Quality organization.
Product/Process – Use quality testing and tracking tools to ensure all products leaving the plant will meet all customer requirements. Work with the operations and engineering teams to ensure product traceability and record retention standards are in place. Provide systems, measures and guidance in developing product and process capability against customer requirements and company expectations.
People Development – Provide training and counseling to all company employees to ensure quality tools and systems are understood and used properly in daily activities.
Supply Chain –Evaluate and counsel suppliers in their ability to meet customer and company quality standards. Ensure supplier involvement in quality certification programs. Use quality tools to identify and eliminate problems before and as they occur. Use agreed-to metrics to manage critical suppliers performance. Also ensure that supply chain elements between company and the end customer are also using quality systems and standards consistent with the customer and company expectations.
Cost – Assist the organization in meeting or exceeding all cost and working capital objectives through the use of tools such as Cost of Quality and PONC. Teach the use of strong problem solving skills to all company employees to ensure customer quality and lowest cost are an ever-improving reality.
Control – Utilize recognized Customer, Company and International Quality processes and procedures to ensure strong quality control of the manufacturing process and products. Ensure all required international regulatory standards, testing and reporting requirements are met.
Environment, Health and Safety – Ensure a safe, healthy and environmentally sound workplace which promotes the continued well-being of employees, equipment, facility and community.
Corporate Oversight – Report indirectly to the parent company Quality and Sales functions for overall strategy and guidance. Ensure timely utilization of corporate standards and practices, and reporting of local results.
Strategy – Participate with the local leadership in planning and implementing strategic initiatives to ensure long-term viability of company.
3. Desired profile of the candidate
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science or Business with specific training in the knowledge and use of Quality tools and systems.
Language:
Fluently speaks, reads and writes Mandarin and English
Possible age range:
Preferred age range is from 29 to 40 (TBC)
Professional experience:
Seasoned professional who speaks, reads and writes fluent Mandarin and English with at least a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science or Business.
7 or more years’ experience in a Quality related position within the automotive sector.
To be successful, the incumbent must have a working knowledge of automotive industry quality systems and standards. Quality practices such as Lean, Six-Sigma, 5S, Kaizen, etc. must have been used extensively and be second-nature to the successful candidate.
Customer interface on a regular basis means the incumbent will be the primary contact person in day-to-day issues involving the customer.
A strong and calm approach to defining and solving customers’ problems and internal problems coupled with a sense of urgency will ensure customer satisfaction.
The ability to manage a small professional staff will be needed as well as the ability to motivate and train all employees in the knowledge and use of quality tools on a daily basis.
Must be able to travel abroad for training and other business purposes.
Must have working knowledge in the following areas: VDA, ISO/TS, ASTM, Quality Lab and Testing, Lean, Six-Sigma, SPC, DOE, Process Capability, KPIs, APQP, Problem Solving Techniques, Regulatory standards used in the automotive industry.
Supervisory experience is preferred.
Analytical skills must be strong and the use of analytical software such as EXCEL and Statistical packages is a must.
This person must be calmly confident and have strong interpersonal skills.
The ability to handle multiple projects at multiple stages will be a steady demand.
The ability to provide concise executive summary of complex details will be called on regularly.
The successful candidate must have a strong work ethic, be able to work well under pressure, understand the importance of time management and meeting deadlines, have a strong problem solving skills, and be a team player.
