Essential Responsibilities

Demonstrate accountability for functional, business, and broad company objectives in the field of MV distribution equipment designs and applications. For this role there will be more emphases on the IEC requirements than the (ANSI) IEEE requirements. Integrates and develops design and development processes that meet business needs across the organization. In this role one will be involved in long-term planning of the Equipment team organization and product related critical technologies: insulation systems, arc management and vacuum technologies. This role contributes to the overall strategy and manages complex issues within MV (ANSI) IEEE and IEC distribution equipment designs. This role also includes involvement in the application specific MV product designs and configurations to fulfill the customer CTQs and business strategy.

- Identify, develop, evaluate, and introduce engineering solutions to meet near term and long range engineering needs with regard to MV equipment thermal management and arc handling capabilities, MV product performance enhancements, analytical design approaches and standards compliance.
- Provide technical consultation on MV Equipment products throughout the business including supplier and field support.
- Lead and provide the key technical direction to large projects with critical business impact.
- Maintain an active role in developing and defining the state of the art in distribution equipment construction in order to anticipate, apply, adapt or develop technologies for product introduction, quality, performance, cost improvements and problem resolution in meeting current and future business needs including adherence to schedules and estimated costs.
- Support other GE businesses, internal & external customers, and suppliers as required.
- Provide technical consultation and application support to cross-functional teams throughout the business to improve or resolve manufacturing, product center, supplier, or field issues.
- Effectively communicate and provide recommendations through the analysis, preparation and presentation of technical data to internal and external GE customers using reports, records, and letters.
- Use knowledge and expertise to market winning proposals and application solutions in anticipation of business product needs. Work with the distributed generation EM team to develop application specific solutions for MV in the eBOP initiative.
- Prepare invention disclosures to protect technology that gives the business a competitive advantage, as well as protecting the intellectual property rights of the company.
- Provide technical guidance, direction and training to new and experienced materials engineers, specialists, technicians and co-ops in the area of MV distribution equipment.

Qualifications/Requirements

- Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Computer Science
- At least 10 additional years of experience in an engineering capacity
