Job Purpose:

The Sr. BD Manager will be responsible for the development and execution of aggressive and sustainable business strategies to build our Writing business in the off-line Retail Channel including Department store/Shopping Mall/Traditional trade like Book and stationary stores/Modern trade


The primary purpose of the function is to accelerate growth of our Writing business in China through direct contact and engagement with the headquarters of key department store chain groups so as to build strong business relationships and gain full visibility of the retailers’ growth plans and retail activation opportunities. As part of the engagement efforts, the position holder will be expected to conduct periodic business reviews with the retailer and provide full visibility of our power brands’ performance within their stores supported with strong sell out programs with the objective of positioning the Parker/Waterman/Rotring/Dymo brands as clear category leaders.


The scope of the function will entail working closely with the Retail Field team, Distributors and Channel Marketing team in the development and implementation of business building activities, and also utilizing corporate resources towards building meaningful market shares.


Main Responsibilities:

  • To build and implement a consumer engagement calendar for each key account integrating: new launch activities, retail events, VIP events, store cooperation, CRM, promotional activities,
  • To lead and build a CRM strategy and programs for those accounts in collaboration with sales, marketing and IT.
  • To plan and budget expenses related to the consumer engagement activities of those accounts. Measure and report on planned activities.
  • To prepare and implement the necessary sales action plans to fulfill our objective of being clear market leader in the highly strategic Fine Writing while maintaining a secondary focus on the other business opportunities in the other Newell Rubbermaid segments like Dymo business
  • To build and maintain a strong working relationship with all key personnel of the retail accounts; and develop an account profile listing the retailers vision, strategies, key personnel, policies, trading terms, sales performance and any other relevant information
  • To build a database of our sales performance by chain groups
  • To conduct period Business Partnership Reviews with the headquarters of key retail chain groups (especially department store chains)
  • To build and maintain a strong day-to-day working relationship with all key personnel of the retail accounts and assist the local General Manager and NSD to establish top-to-top relationship with the top chain stores
  • To assist the NSD in the preparation of Annual Business Plans, Sales Budgets and Salesforce Incentive Schemes.
  • To present during regular Sales Meetings on the sales performance of the chain groups and keep the field sales team up-to-date on the development and growth plans of the retailers, such as new store openings, retail activation opportunities and calendar of key activities
  • Work closely with the retailers to obtain sell-out sales data by month, by location.
  • Continuously identify / map out distribution universe and potential; and establish distribution targets by location as part of the company’s building block for Greater China’s strategic business plan
  • To monitor the development of the retail channel and understand the opportunities it provides to the company’s key brands. Where the opportunities are aligned with company’s plan, a strategy and execution plan will need to be developed in tandem with the Sales Management team
  • To monitor the implementation of our company’s pricing policies for the retail channel and ensure that such policies are being adhered to at all times by the retailer and distributors for all retail channel
  • To continuously monitor key competitive activities in the channel and develop the necessary actions to protect or enhance Newell Rubbermaid’s overall market share
  • Always adhere to the company’s Code of Business Conduct and Ethics and ensure that the entireTEAM understands and adhere to it at all times
  • Other duties as assigned from time to time

Qualifications:

  • Tertiary qualification required, Sales or Marketing emphasis preferred
  • At least 8 to 10 years of sales management experience in a progressive FMCG or premium consumer goods . Demonstrated experience in Key Accounts Management is an added advantage
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills matched with creative drive
  • Experience in preparation of budgets, forecasting etc
  • Effective project management skills
  • Good negotiation skills
  • Self-starter and able to work independently
  • Sound analytical skills and acute attention to details
  • Strong verbal and written English communication skills.
  • Ability and desire to multi-task.
