Tradeland Co., Ltd., a wholly foreign-owned SME is hiring a Business Development Manager to its Shanghai office to work both in Tradeland’s Consulting and Environmental divisions, developing inbound and outbound new business opportunities. The position is based in Shanghai, but the role covers China, with occasional travel within company offices. The successful candidate will work across a variety of industry sectors (food, environment, medical, etc.). The role is suited to an internationally-trained business professional with a strong market research background.
Reporting to: Regional Director, Greater China
Salary: commensurate with experience
Hours: 9am – 5.30pm
Location: Shanghai, China
Starting: January, 2014
Responsibilities:
» Identifies potential clients, discovers and explores business opportunities by researching industry and related events, publications, and by leveraging existing contacts
» Maintains an extensive knowledge of current market conditions
» Pursues sales leads and prospective clients and helps develop a diverse regional and country-wide client base across a range of industry sectors
» Carries out extensive market research in a variety of sectors in order to evaluate the potential of incoming enquiries
» Prepares and delivers presentations and proposals to demonstrate the value of our solutions
» Undertakes executive-level engagement with targeted enterprise customers to define business and technology project requirements
» Screens potential business opportunities by estimating partners’ needs and goals, and by analyzing deal requirements
» Accompanies the Regional Director to business negotiations and interprets (Chinese-English) in a professional manner during these business meetings
» Demonstrates technical selling skills and product knowledge as well as complete understanding of pricing and proposal models
» Demonstrates the ability to carry on a business conversation with business owners and decision makers
» Communicates regularly and effectively with team members in other countries
» Leads and manages multiple engagements simultaneously from a business and customer relationship perspective
» Assists the Regional Director’s work by providing strategy recommendations
» Protects the organization's value by keeping information confidential
Skills:
» Excellent written and oral communication skills both in English and Mandarin Chinese, including strong presentation skills
» Analytical thinking, rational mindset, associative thinking skills
» Ability to navigate both the Chinese and European business mentality
» Proactive, resourceful person
» Quick learner, at ease with picking up technical knowledge
» Ability and readiness to learn and develop on the job, regularly updating knowledge-base
» Ability to generate ideas and solutions, capable of hands-on problem-solving
» Ability to use own initiative and pay close attention to detail
» Ability to cope with competing demands and to prioritize tasks
» Leadership skills
» Capable of working independently, and having responsibility as an individual
Qualifications:
» Bachelor’s degree in economics, business administration, marketing, or other relevant field
» Five or more years proven experience in the sales and marketing of complex solutions and services within one or more of the following market sectors: environmental protection/water/public utilities, heavy industry, automotive, food industry, renewable energies, infrastructure/construction, medical industry, government sector
» Extensive market research experience is a must
» Ability to translate and interpret Chinese/English in a professional manner is a must
» Consulting and project management experience preferred
» Solid relationship network in any major industries in China is a plus
» International exposure
Recommended qualifications:
» Master’s degree with study abroad
This position is based in Shanghai, with occasional travel within China. Frequent communication is expected with team members in Chongqing and Budapest.
