Summary:
With minimal supervision, this position will lead and participate in Supply Chain projects of varied scope and complexity, often acting as the primary liaison between Operations & Sales/Marketing. Position serves as the Marketing Department’s primary contact within the Supply Chain supporting the Hershey Company’s innovation process. This entails providing project management support to ensure all divisions within the Supply Chain (i.e., Manufacturing, Logistics, Quality Assurance, Engineering etc.) are working collaboratively in support of new product development and execution. Additionally, position will develop, recommend and implement production capacity, margin enhancement and new item production solutions by leveraging business and technical skills with evolving processes. For this position, the incumbent must be able to manage an array of complex collaboration/technical/business problems, taking proper actions indicated and using the appropriate resources.
Position to be based in Shanghai.
Major Duties/Responsibilities:
Delivering Innovation
- Participates in the formulation, evaluation, strategy setting, and presentation of new product ideas and solution alternatives (i.e., product offerings, profitability, and the manufacturing solutions).
- Coordinates innovation activities within the Supply Chain in support of new product development and execution, taking into account budget, resources, timing, project gate reviews etc.
- Supports the Marketing Department in providing input necessary for completing gate review information specific to the supply chain
- Leads development of product line standard cost estimates for business case evaluation
- Utilizes project management tools for management of products from inception to implementation
- Ensures accountability for meeting all milestones, negotiating with appropriate departments and resolving timeline issues proactively
- Defines, manages, and communicates clearly expectations related to scope and progress of work
- Holds regular status meetings with project team
- Assists with the identification of resource requirements and assigns individual responsibilities
- Reviews deliverables prepared by supply chain team prior to sharing with Marketing
- Proactively identifies project risks early and monitors risk throughout life of the project minimizing risk where possible
- Resolves and/or escalates issues in a timely fashion
- Manages resource, capital and expense budgets related to innovation projects
Improving New Product Development Process
- Develops tools that support decision making and business cases
- Makes recommendations on how project teams should be organized to most effectively support the innovation process
- Identifies opportunities for improvement and makes constructive suggestions for change
- Keeps track of lessons learned and shares those lessons with team members
Maximizing Brand Profitability
- Periodically reviews profitability margins of skus produced in China
- Leads cross functional discussions involving both Marketing and Supply Chain on opportunities to improve margins
- Leads teams to evaluate and assess financial feasibility of new and changing items
- Leads or participates in projects to deliver cost savings targets or attain targeted financial hurdles
Overseeing Capital Project Management
- Identifies needs for capital projects based on supply and demand indicators
- Prepares and presents capital projects for senior management approval
- Leads teams to manage selected capital projects through completion
Education, Knowledge, skills and abilities
? Bachelor's/Master's Degree
? Fortune 500, Multi-business Unit, Multi-Client or Large Scale Consumer Packaged Goods experience
Senior Operations Engineer: + 5-7 years experience
? Technical project management abilities
? Knowledge of quality assurance and quality control principles
? Knowledge of Manufacturing practices and processes
? Product cost estimation
? Strong financial planning, analysis, and forecasting skills
? Good knowledge of process engineering
? Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
? Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office suites: World, Excel, Powerpoint etc.
