ABB Beijing Drive Systems is one of the most important local business lines within the global ABB Motion business. Currently we are looking to invest more in research in ABB Motion in China, and therefore setting up a new research team located in Beijing. The team will collaborate closely with both the ABB global research community as well as local internal and external research organizations, such as Universities, other ABB research teams in China, etc.

Scientist – Servo motion
We are looking for a Scientist at ABB Beijing Drive Systems. In this position, you will be conducting research in servo motion control. You will be part of a local team that belongs to a global ABB Motion research organization. You will collaborate with Chinese Universities and part of your work is to scan the technological progress in China in motion control. To secure the transfer of knowledge and technology, you will work closely with the product development organization of Beijing Drive Systems. You will be reporting to Motion Business Research Team Leader in China.

- Conduct research and technology development in the field of servo motion control.
- Execute research projects with on-time completion and high-quality results.
- Secure communication and networking with all related stakeholders.
- Build long-term collaborations with local academic society.
- Scan local science and technology progress in servo motion.
- Adhere to ABB integrity and compliance policies.

- Master’s degree (must) or Ph.D. degree (strong advantage) in control of electric drives with hands-on experience in servo motion control
- Solid theoretical background in servo motion control with publications in renowned transactions / journals.
- Position control with system level understanding: modeling of closed loop electro-mechanical system including :Speed & position sensors (pulse encoders, absolutely encoders, resolvers etc.)；Effect of (time deterministic) field buses in multi-axis or other synchronous control；Mechanical system resonances and slack；Delays of I/O；Effects of digital control platform (DSP and peripherals)；Modulation methods；Motor models
- General programming skills on DSP or FPGA. (C++ & VHDL).
- Hands-on experience in laboratory work
- Self-motivated, high curiosity and able to work under pressure.
- Team player with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Good in both oral and written English and Chinese.
