General Summary of the Position:

Performs translations. Responsible for adapting the organization’s products to be used in a particular language, culture and target market and provides user perspective during the product life cycle. May be assigned to work within cross-functional and cross-organizational teams (i.e. Development, Product Validation (PV), Localization Engineers and Reviewers), and researches, tests and proposes implementation of tools and Internationalization (I18N) and Localization (L10N) methodologies. Liaises with various stakeholders to design, document and implement localization engineering processes to optimize process and tool efficiency while increasing quality of localized deliverables. Works with minimal supervision. Moderate skills with high level of proficiency.

Essential Functions:

· Applies knowledge of Internationalization (I18N) product architecture, file formats, localization standards and methodologies, tools and processes to:

o Take an active role in localization process definition, spearheading department initiatives including translation quality, process and tool improvements

o Design and/or apply localization instructions, and provide assistance to other internal or external team members

o Debug issues impacting localizability or localized products to identify Internationalization (I18N) and other issues early, and drive resolution by issue owner

· Applies product and subject matter expertise, reviews translations from vendors or less experienced Localization Engineers, or coordinates reviews with other engineers.

· Localizes software strings, technical documentation, training materials, multimedia components, graphics and screenshots for each product into target language. May involve translation, edit, proofreading and technical review.

· Researches, creates and maintains language guidelines and technical terminology. Works independently with reviewers to fine-tune translations and manage terminology.

· Disseminates information from different sources to localize product, supporting several products being localized in parallel at any given time.

· Generates and runs automated processes to generate localized deliverables and optimize recycling of localized deliverables.

· Coordinates handoffs and hand-backs with Development (via Source Control/Change Management) and monitors build processes, and launches and assigns translation and review tasks via WorldServer GMS (Globalization Management System).

· Verifies localized deliverables and debugs issues driving resolution of defects prior to product release.

· Applies advanced skills to resolve problems not covered by existing procedures or practices independently.

· Identifies and resolves problems and applies problem-solving skills in order to deal with most situations.

· Team player with a thorough understanding of the localization process, localization tools and Internationalization (I18N) and localization aspects of software architecture.

· Proven ability to successfully manage complex projects involving outside resources and distributed teams.

· Proven ability to deliver high quality localization projects on time and within budget.

· Strong leadership, organizational and communication skills.

· Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.

· Ability to work comfortably using Enterprise level tools and environments.

· Ability to thrive under pressure and function effectively in a fast-paced multi-cultural environment, providing strong leadership skills and managing multiple projects simultaneously.

· Native speaker proficiency in target language for translation and review.

Education and Experience Requirement:

· Bachelor’s or equivalent degree in Computer Science, Localization, Technical Translation or related field or equivalent experience.

· 3-5 years of Localization Engineering experience.

· 5 years of localization experience, excellent knowledge of the localization workflow.

· Experience working within matrix teams and geographically distributed teams.

· Experience with Digital Design and Collaboration – CAD/CAM/CAE, Product Lifecycle management (PLM) – a plus.

· Experience identifying Internationalization (I18N) issues and experience with localization testing.

· Experience localizing products with complex product architectures (client/server), XML and HTML based environments.

· Knowledge of a scripting language (MySQL, Perl, Ant) a plus.

· Experience with complex localization processes and Globalization Management Systems (GMS).

· Experience working with WorldServer GMS a plus.
