JOB SUMMARY:
The Packaging Manager is responsible to lead a team of package experts to develop product packages, define package requirements / specifications, and manage production package quality and solve package problems for Furniture, Lighting, Decorative Accessories, Functional Accessories, Table Top items, Food Products, and
Bake/Cookware products
, to ensure the packages can protect products to safely deliver to customers. He/she is also responsible to develop reporting tools to track DC operation costs associated to package integrity. He/she will also support Textile and other Soft-Line products.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Define the objectives, strategies of packaging engineering in our global sourcing operations, work together with Merchandising teams and QA teams on initiatives, processes and specific activities on package construction development, packaging and testing requirements, communication and training to internal teams and vendors, and, the package quality controls in various stages of sourcing operations.
  • Lead the package engineering team to proactively work with vendors on all package protection from package development, through packaging testing, production package quality control, to the post delivery package complaint and/or other package problem solving, so as to support company’s growing souring
    business;
  • Develop and maintain general and specific packaging specifications that meet transportation and optimal
    distribution flow requirements for all Decorative Accessories, Functional Accessories, Table Top
    items, Food Products, Bake/Cookware products,
    Furniture, Lighting Soft-lines and Textiles Products.
  • Drive the development and implementation of package-testing standards in our two in house package testing labs where testing is based on method of transportation and distribution environment (ISTA-3A/ISTA-1A/Palletize/UPS-shipping mode environment).
  • Review package test reports for compliance, taking corrective action as necessary.
  • Research,designate, and approve packaging suppliers worldwide.
  • Analyze damage reports on products and take appropriate corrective actions to eliminate future problems.
  • Drive Packaging decision during product development stage.
  • Involve in ECO-friendly/ cost effective on package cost.
  • Develop and provide the training/data analysis and reporting matrix for China packaging team and cross-functional teams.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES:

  • Candidate possess a Bachelors Degree preferably in packaging Engineering or technically related field.
  • 8~10 years working experience in development and/or quality control of protective packaging constructions /configurations. Extensive knowledge and experiences in dealing with hard-line goods and furniture packages, familiar with ISTA-3A test standard and required package protection needs.
  • Good knowledge on various types of packaging materials and their utilization in package protection.
  • Project Management experience essential.
  • Quality Management experience preferred.
  • Process Management experience preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with cross-functional teams.
  • Proficiency in computer applications such as MS Office and Visio.
    AutoCAD and/or Inventor preferred, WMS knowledge, Access and Crystal knowledge a plus.
  • Needs to understand protective packaging...packaging engineers tend to focus in school mostly on display packaging.Examples of good protective packing are from: transportation, aviation, appliances, heavy electronics industry, and the motorbike industries.
  • Needs to understand key packing materials we use: i.e. corrugation, EPS foams, poly foam
    sheets; as well as future materials, sustainable packaging and their strength + loadability challenges.
  • Domestic and International Travel.
  • Self-motivated and can work under pressure.
