THE TEAM

As Associate Creative Director, you will be responsible for leading a team of Visual Designers in Chengdu. Your and your team will be responsible for designing innovative products including software, consumer websites, and mobile applications. This team is part of the overall, growing User Experience (UX) Design group. We are a multidisciplinary team in North America that also includes Interaction Design and User Research. You will lead Visual Design in our growing Chengdu development center, and will be responsible for the visual design of web and mobile apps for the North American market. We are striving to change the way people live, work and play. We’re passionate about making a real difference in the lives of ours users and we start by understanding their needs, wants, and desires.

The UX team focuses on making our systems USEFUL; to enable doing things in a better way. USABLE; to empower self-service and encourage adoption and use, while reducing support costs and enabling scalability. DESIRABLE; to create buzz, grow brand-value, organic revenue, and more Net Promoters. EFFICIENT to build and maintain by continuously deploying good-design that speeds development and reduces the need for refactoring.

THE ROLE

Active Network is seeking a leader with a passion for design, quality products, mentoring, and helping to build a great team of Visual Designers in China. As Associate Creative Director, you will report directly to the Global Creative Director in North America. You will work closely with your designers and their product teams through out all stages of development, both in Chengdu, and North America. In this role you will have the opportunity to help build, and lead, one of the top UX teams in China.

RESPONSIBILITIES

? Innovating, conceptualizing, designing and bringing next generation of products to life
? Contribute to product vision and strategic decisions in collaboration with other team members and stakeholders
? Lead designers to create visually stunning, smart interfaces
? Review all visual design work in Chendgu
? Work directly with the Global Creative Director to deliver quality work across ACTIVE’s products
? Collaboration and communication with peers across the UX team
? Team communication (China and N.A.) via phone, Skype, WebEx, and email
? Contribute to maintenance and growth of ACTIVE product style guide
? Maintain stringent Visual Design QA standards
? Lead and mentor designers in Chengdu
? Work closely with Chengdu and Xian based development leads
? Remote attendance and contribution to monthly, global Visual Design team meetings
? Lead weekly design meeting in Chengdu focused on work review, training, inspiration and collaboration.
? Lead design brainstorming and work sessions

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

? Written and spoken English skills required
? BA/BS/MFA degree in Graphic Design, Communication Design, Interface Design
or equivalent experience
? Prior design leadership position preferred
? Adobe Creative Suite expertise required (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
? A strong portfolio featuring your design work required

DESIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALITIES

? 8-10 years related design experience (desktop, software and mobile)
? Creative, inspirational, confident, design leader
? Experience hiring, growing, and leading other designers
? Ability to articulate and protect business goals and user needs
? Ability to present and engage a large group
? Communicate with your team, as well as with key product owners in the company
? Impeccable eye for design aesthetics and a great attention to detail
? Understanding of fundamental design principles: typography, composition, hierarchy, and color
? Ability to make sure you and your team deliver quality work on tight deadlines
? Ability to train the overall team on current and emerging Internet standards
? Experience working in a scrum/agile environment
? Experience designing for the North American market
? Knowledge of current Internet standards, including web browsers and browser specifications, screen resolution, and file optimization
? Working knowledge of HTML, and CSS
? Strong presentation and communication skills
? Ability to manage multiple people, and projects concurrently
