Sandvik in Shanghai/Beijing is seeking for a Senior Mining Engineer
Sandvik is a high-technology, engineering group with advanced products and world-leading positions within selected areas. This combination has provided world-leading positions in selected areas - tools for metal cutting, equipment and tools for the mining and construction industries, stainless materials, special alloys, metallic and ceramic resistance materials as well as process systems.
The position would directly report to Business Line Manager, Trans4mine Northern Hemisphere, below please refer to the job description:
Key Performance Areas:
JOB PURPOSE
To bridge the gap between customers (long-term process and profitability focus) and Sandvik (individual products, service offering, and short-term sales) by:
? Supporting global “must-win” sales opportunities with applications and process expertise
? Providing consulting to optimize mining processes
? Promoting Sandvik’s superior applications knowledge
? Identifying long-term greenfield/brownfield opportunities (3-10 years)
? Contributing to product & service development (innovation, fit-for-purpose designs)
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Aligned with the job purposes, the following are the main responsibilities of the position:
? Ensure that major tenders support customer needs and represent best practices, thus increasing our chances of securing sales
- Engage customers on a senior level (decision makers)
- Influence equipment specifications
? Identify and deliver consulting services internally and externally
- Identify needs, opportunities, and alternative solutions
- Globally, lead consulting work in areas of personal expertise
- Be an internal resource as requested, e.g. in training or OptiMine implementation
? Drive applications expertise internally and externally
- Prepare industry standards, whitepapers, conference presentations, magazines articles, university lectures, etc.
- Promote Mine-2-Mill concepts for overall process optimization
? Identify and track major long-term projects and engage the right internal stakeholders
- Focus on the host or target Sales Area(s)
? Provide input into the development of new offering and product specifications
- Support value-driven product and service innovation
- Identify and share new ideas and technologies
- Communicate needs between key customers, R&D institutions, and Engineering Houses
Way of working:
? Develop close relationships with Sales Area China
? Document activities through CRM system
? Track the value add of consulting activities
? Ensure safety in all activities
Your profile:
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES
? Mining process knowledge (customers and applications)
? Understanding of Sandvik’s offering, business model, and strategic targets
? Management of projects to deliver clear reports and results on time
? Creativity and flexibility to deal with ambiguity and unfamiliar situation
? At ease working with a broad network of peers with diverse backgrounds and levels of authority
? Ability to cut through the noise to determine the core issues
? Proactive self-starter and comfortable taking difficult decisions
? Excellent verbal and written presentation skills including fluent business English
EXPERIENCE
? Minimum 5 years of experience in the mining industry
? Some experience of mining automation beneficial
? Cross-functional experience (e.g., operations, engineering, consulting)
? Proven business acumen (financial analysis, project management)
? History of creative and innovative solutions
EDUCATION
? Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or other engineering discipline with the relevant mining experience
? Advanced degrees in supplementary area a plus (e.g. an MBA)
LICENCES & CERTIFICATES
? Professional certificates, registrations, and affiliations a plus
? Driver’s license
OTHER INFORMATION
? Must be medically fit to visit surface and underground mines
? Must meet requirements to be certified to work at high altitude
? Must be prepared to travel globally to customer- and company sites up to 14 days per month
As a person you are proactive, self-motivated and one with lot of initiative, courage and integrity and a business minded, result oriented attitude. You also have strong communication skills and can work in an English environment.
