Overview of Job

You will be responsible for accurate analysis of content and development of effective methodology for your designated accounts and projects, in order to ensure the successful outcome for all linguistic elements, on multi-lingual and language-specific levels. You will focus on enhancing efficiency and quality at source, with the aim of adding value at all points of the localization process to enable the translation teams to deliver high quality work in the most productive manner. You will also be measured on the attainment of the desired levels of profitability on your accounts and projects. You will constantly and proactively seek to improve methodology, based on your thorough knowledge of translation processes and the work of translators. You will incorporate the intelligent use of technology on your accounts, drawing from your expertise in translation tools. You will ensure that methodology and other information are communicated clearly to the SDL Network Offices and other translation teams. You will be client-facing and will be able to interact with clients as an 'expert' for your office when advanced linguistic and translation knowledge is required.

Competences and Experience

Translating competence
o 3 years minimum professional translation/localization experience
o Educated to degree level, preferably with a recognised qualification in translation or similar discipline
o Experience of working on large and demanding accounts and projects in a 'lead' capacity
o Proven translation ability within a localization environment
o Thorough understanding of localization processes and workflows
o In-depth understanding of the work of localization translators
Linguistic and textual competence
o High standard of fluency and accuracy in at least two languages (including own language)
o Knowledge of major text type conventions for applicable languages
Research competence
o Ability to research in depth a variety of subjects to acquire specialised knowledge
o In-depth knowledge of Internet searching and tools
Cultural competence
o High-level knowledge of cultural standards associated with source and target languages
Technical competence
o High level knowledge of linguistic technology and tools, based on practical experience
o Keen interest in and a willingness to understand new technologies
Personal competences
o Analytical approach, combined with keen eye for detail and quality
o Process-orientated, with ability to understand the purpose behind the process
o Ability to understand and positively influence the key factors which determine the commercial success of localization projects in SDL
o Excellent problem solving skills
o Advanced communication skills (written and verbal)
o Good organizational and time management skills
o Ability to function effectively in a multi-task environment
o Client-facing, with experience of client communication
o Proactive and flexible approach, reliable
o Ability to act as the 'expert', and motivate and lead others to achieve results for the team
o Aptitude for passing on knowledge to empower others, including via training
