Role
1.Report to Director of Engineering
2.Principal lead for instrument prototype assembly, integration, characterisation, and validation; including issuing system performance compliance reports; identifying and reporting all technical issues during this phase of the product development; and working closely with design and manufacturing teams to reach viable resolutions for all technical issues within schedule and budget
3.Bridge between design teams and manufacturing teams to assure quality, testability, manufacturability, and compliant with design specifications
4.The work is part of a multi-disciplinary effort by a high quality team made of developers, engineers, researchers and doctors from some of the leading eyecare institutions in China and worldwide
Duties and Responsibilities
1.Assemble prototype optical systems including subassemblies and integration with camera systems, characterization and trouble shoot
2.Work closely with optical sub-system team developing and benchmarking system performance models; developing and implementing test setup and procedures and/or evaluating and selecting appropriate tests; perform measurements and data analysis; compile and present data
3.May be required to perform thermal, structural and mechanical integrity modeling and analysis to predict and optimize the system performance
4.Support electronic sub-system team to bring up first batch electronic modules, trouble shoot and perform characterization
5.Develop system characterization and validation test plan
6.Conduct system functional testing, performance testing, environmental testing, and regulatory compliance certification
7.Work closely with manufacture process and NPI engineer to architect, define and deliver optical characterization equipment and various test and calibration fixtures
8.Work closely with optical, mechanical and factory test team to bring up production line test and calibration stations
9.Work closely with manufacture process and NPI engineer to develop and calibration algorithm for each individual sub-systems and for overall integrated system
10.Prepare and deliver presentations to clearly communicate complex technical risks and mitigation strategies on a monthly basis
11.Work closely and effectively with design teams as well as product line management, sales, marketing, and customer support teams
12.Support sales and marketing, product line management and engineering teams through consultation on overall system designs to develop product road map and feature roll out plans
13.Mentor and coach junior system verification engineers and test technicians
14.Willingness and ability to travel both domestically and internationally (up to 10% of the time)
Required Skills
1.Strong lab skills with affinity for hands-on experimentation and optical system alignment
2.Knowledge of optic and optic mount design, analysis, drawings and fabrication
3.Extensive understanding and wide application of advanced principles, theories, concepts and techniques in solving opto-mechanical engineering problem
4.Strength in failure analysis, root cause diagnosis, and systems-level problem solving
5.Knowledge of Matlab and LabView is an asset
6.Expertise in several of the skills listed below and some familiarity with all of the skills listed
7.Perform structural, mechanical and thermal integrity modeling and analysis
8.Optical test equipment automation
9.Structure and assembly of optical systems (lens system, digital imaging system, automated controls)
10.Image processing and computer vision
11.Electronic hardware and software
12.Material property and selection
13.2D and 3D CAD
14.Knowledge of manufacturing and design for manufacturing with structural materials such as, aluminum alloys, plastic injection molding, Graphite composite materials, for assemblies and optics.
15.Logical, analytical and creative thinking
16.Energy and drive in a start-up work environment
17.Excellent inter-personal, teamwork, written and verbal communication skills
18.Fluent in both Mandarin and English, in writing and orally
Required Experience
1.Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline, PhD degree in Optical Engineering, Precision Instruments or Precision Mechanical Engineering, or Physics preferred
2.10+ years’ experience in an optical imaging or medical instrumentation environment
3.Experience in design and simulation SW (e.g. Zemax, Code V) is a plus.
