Archibat HR Asia is looking for an Operation Manager for the world’s largest designer and maker of carpet tile. The company focuses on their product and service through constant emphasis on process quality and engineering, combining with careful attention to their customers’ needs.
THE ROLE
- Reporting directly to the Senior Vice President – Greater China
- Direct responsibility will be for the efficient operation of a 13,000 m² manufacturing facility and a manufacturing staff of around 140, engaged in a highly flexible ‘made to order’ production model that is unique to our industry.
KEY ACTIVITIES
1. Business Management
a. As a member of the China BU Senior Team, shared responsibility for the P&L performance of the China Business
b. Function as a member of the Senior Team in the business, independent of functional responsibilities when needed, balancing the priorities of all functions.
c. Understand management and financial reports, across all functions
d. Maintain a broad awareness of the China economy and market place, and its impacts on the business
e. Develop and implement an operational strategy to ensure the long term development of the manufacturing plant to maximise business outcomes.
f. Collaborate with the product and marketing teams, advising on Operations related solutions, so that new products are brought on-line with minimal disruption and maximum profitability
g. Resource, develop and motivate the Operations teams to maximise team capability and performance.
h. Develop and execute capital investment plans to support the operational capability of the plant aligned with business objectives
i. Actively participate in the Asia Pac Operations Group
j. In conjunction with other senior managers based at the site, take overall responsibility for the facilities’ fabric and security
k. Oversee key statutory, industry and vendor relationships as appropriate in respect of the operations.
2. Operational Management
a. Develop the operational footprint to ensure optimal alignment with the customer value proposition
b. Drive operational efficiency to maximise positive financial outcomes from the manufacturing unit.
c. Continuously review and plan orders, production rates, stock levels and materials to maintain optimal use of manufacturing capacity.
d. Drive service improvements and innovation to enhance competitive advantage of the business
e. Ensure the Operations teams comply with all company and national policy and practice so that the plants are efficient and safe places of work
f. Direct and control material purchasing, warehousing and logistical activity to ensure that day to day production is effectively supported at minimum cost.
g. Lead and direct sustainability activity with the Operations department toensure that the company achieves its sustainability objectives as defined within the Mission Zero Goal
h. Champion and drive safe operations in every activity on the site
Requirements:
- Results driven, with a track record of delivering optimized manufacturing performance, over time
- Customer focused.
- A natural leader, by example and influence, both with subordinates and peers – a committed team contributor.
- Enthusiasm and persistence, in abundance
- A ‘can do’ attitude to new tasks and changing circumstances.
- Drive and creativity in finding ways to realise operational objectives

- Integrity and honesty
Other skills & Experience:
- 8 years manufacturing management experience, including at least 5 years in a end use customer driven environment (non OEM)
- Has ideally worked in combined BU / Functional matrix environment
- Experience of improvement and change initiatives using LEAN principles
- Graduate level education, ideally with some western influence
- Background to include either an engineering qualification or a demonstrable aptitude through an alternate routeIdeally native Mandarin speaker; alternatively must have oral fluency and a high level of written competency.
- Good communication skills in English, written and spoken
- Highly numerate
- Competent with Financial reporting at operations and business unit levels
- Computer literate
- Proven project management and delivery skills
- Experience in managing and leveraging operations with Tier One ERP System (JDE or SAP) applications.
