Position role summary:
The Customer Engineer performs activities associated with installing, maintaining and servicing deskside computer-related products and legacy systems, at customer sites, large IMS environments and/or depot locations, by using standard methods, techniques and tools applicable to the area in which they are working. Equipment support may include Enterprise Server, PC & laptop computers, storage sub-systems and drives, computer and telecommunications systems as well as networking.
The Customer Engineer achieves the productivity metrics associated with their position.
Key responsibility:
Requires a high level of expertise in PC operating systems i.e. Microsoft/Linux/Unix, networking SW, anti virus SW. and all tier one manufacturer PC and printer products, OEM network devices, and document processing products. This role is also intended as the primary role for personnel providing complex Deskside support.
Provides call taking and site specific support .
Provides Deskside support including software, hardware and networking support for desktops, laptops and servers.
Provides maintenance and support on legacy products.
Prepare and present performance / incident reports to the Service Delivery Manager and to the customer.
Installs and maintains PCs and associated software, networks, servers and peripherals
Supports network products from operational and maintenance perspectives
Performs installs, moves, adds and changes as required
Tests and certifies PCs, networks, servers and client approved applications
Provides follow-up on problems or escalation.
Provides call taking and site specific support (DTS and Legacy).
May be assigned Project Management responsibilities.
Responsible for deployment of multi-faceted infrastructure projects.
Provides advanced troubleshooting capabilities on software and hardware problems including DTS, Legacy systems and interconnectivity problems.
Installs and maintains Enterprise servers, mainframe, high-end networking and complex product configurations, servers, telecommunications equipment, storage-subsystems and drives, high-end document processing equipment, peripherals and PCs.
Performs Installs, moves, adds and changes as required.
Takes responsibility for follow-up services or problem escalation.
Maintains a high degree of professionalism in actions, demeanour and dress.
Ensures customer satisfaction throughout the service delivery transaction.
Skills and knowledge:
Requires a high level of expertise in some or all of the following: High end document processing equipment, Enterprise Servers, high-end electro-mechanical devices storage subsystems and drives, and high end networking and complex product configuration.
Troubleshooting software and hardware problems.
Knowledgeable in servers, Microsoft/Linux/Unix applications, network protocol, internetworking, configuration, and possess advanced PC support capability.
Advanced degree of knowledge of hardware and software including Unisys/Microsoft/Network operating systems
Advanced troubleshooting capabilities on software and hardware problems including DTS, Legacy systems, storage systems and interconnectivity problems.
Ability to test and certify PC, networks, servers and client /Unisys approved software applications and associated peripherals.
Focused on solving business problems.
Performance and attitude consistent with Unisys Core Behavioural Attitudes.
Demonstrated commitment to quality and performance improvement.
Knowledge of client specific internal procedures and service delivery requirements.
Excellent teamwork skills and ability to work unsupervised.
Excellent analytical and diagnostic abilities.

A good understanding of ITIL principles is desirable.
Knowledge of client specific internal procedures and service delivery requirements.
Qualification:
A+ certification.
Completion of CIR4 Core Training.
Specific Manufacturers certifications as required. i.e. EMC, Dell, Cisco, Microsoft, Unisys. COMPTIA, and NETWORKPLUS.
Tertiary qualification desirable (Dip. in Computer Engineering or Dip. Business Computing).
Microsoft MCSE-Windows 2K or above desiable.
IBM /HP/ Compaq /Dell Server certifications desirable.
SAN certifications desirable.
ICT industry recognized qualifications are desirable.
For legacy products, must have current product training.
