This is a rare and unique opportunity to help drive and execute the STB server growth plan in China. We’re looking for a bold and strategic thinker, an outside-the-box operator with an ability to help define and execute the STB server growth plan for China. Core competencies in the role include: drive for success, action-oriented, courage and conviction, thought leadership, ability to influence, and both technical and business leadership.
This director role will report to the GM of Windows Azure Business Development in Redmond, will work closely with the Server BG lead in Beijing, and across BGs, sales, services and marketing organizations in the US and China to build and manage the STB China Growth Plan, including:
- Drive completion of the overall STB China Growth Plan with inputs from across Microsoft and key partners.
- Implement core initiatives of the plan including and work closely with China segment leaders to measure and report progress, and to adjust as necessary to maximize return.
- Consider and build for continued STB success in future fiscal years.
Required Competencies:
- Business and Strategy Leadership
- Deeply understand how to create a new business offering from scratch via different forms of partnerships, and strategic investments while keeping a laser focus on revenue, profitability, and market share growth.
- Leverage and influence existing corporate business infrastructure by working through product offerings, distribution channels, pricing and licensing strategies, and marketing programs for China.
- Translate strategy into action and a clear passion for closing deals.
- Understand thoroughly the economics, dynamics and intricacy of China cloud business, know what levers to pull and when to pull them to influence change, and continually monitor ongoing trends to anticipate change and proactively lead a timely response.
- Understand interconnected relationships amongst government, enterprise, PE/VC, startups groups in China.
- Develop forecasts and targeted revenue optimization plans to positively impact the business group and long-term strategy for China.
- Design, implement, and adjust strategies, plans, and programs to optimize revenue, profitability, and market share across complementary products or services through related segments and channels.
- Market Analysis and Opportunity Identification
- Assess China markets and trends and to determine opportunities for Microsoft to provide customers/partners with Windows Azure platform.
- Apply innovative thinking to develop or refine product or services approaches, business models, or marketing strategies to proactively and strategically respond to opportunities.
- Recognize possible future opportunities, assess future market dynamics and redefine marketing strategies and/or business models to exploit market opportunities.

- Apply learning across domains, understand broad business and competitive issues in China. Understand what is critical before making decisions and able to make correct decisions with incomplete or limited information.

Experience
- 10+ years' experience spanning in product groups, corporate strategy, investment banking, or management consulting.
- Deep understanding of the China cloud business.
- Experience building long-term commercial agreements in China that deal with ambiguities and dynamic business changes while minimizing risk.
- Demonstrated ability to creatively move difficult deals forward by restructuring the deal and/or finding ‘win-win’ scenarios and ensuring competitive advantage.
- Coordinated partners and internal teams, both business and technical to deliver on China strategies.
- Accurately provided senior executives with required information, which ensured project visibility and risk mitigation.
- Developed competitive insight into long-term industry and market evolution to capitalize on historical and similar industry events and activities.
- Developed strong relationships with external cloud / OEM / SI / government entities in China.
- Must be fluent in reading / writing / speaking Chinese.
- Domestic and International travel of up to 50%.
