Interconnection Specialist and Planner

We want world-class engineers to join our team to help build one of the world's largest networks. We’re working on a number of challenges, including next generation network products, scalable solutions related to processing large data sets and a rapidly increasing demands.

Collaborate with a team of Interconnection Experts and planning specialists to build and maintain the peering footprint for one of the largest networks in the world. Microsoft is seeking an Interconnection Specialist to help expand our peering footprint. The ideal candidate will have a blend of commercial and technical knowledge including a deep understanding of the peering eco-system, the ability to determine cost to performance benefits and be able to adjust to a changing environment. Must be able to work independently and with a team, have strong problem-solving skills, strong communication skills and the desire to educate others.

MCIO is the team behind the cloud. MCIO is responsible for delivering web-scale infrastructure, security, and compliance for Microsoft’s online services. Our focus is on smart growth, high efficiency, and delivering a trusted experience to customers and partners worldwide.

Responsibilities • Review forecast and utilization trends to determine where to augment, when and how much • Inject the forecast into work flow and follow through to completion including working with peers, exchange operators and multiple internal teams • Analysis traffic patterns to optimize price while maintaining optimum performance • Document workflows • Update internal peering tools and other relevant documentation

Minimum qualifications • BS or BA degree (In lieu of degree, 4 years relevant work experience). • 5 years of experience in networking technologies, as well as experience with Internet transit and peering, and network transport. • Understanding of BGP and the impacts of BGP changes on traffic • Understanding of network/infrastructure economics • Must be able to handle highly sensitive, confidential, and unusual information with a diplomatic and friendly approach

Preferred qualifications • 7 years relevant work experience, including extensive experience with peering management and vendor management across many geographies simultaneously. • Experience working with a distributed workforce. • Prior supply chain or network/data center operations analytics experience is highly valued.
