Principal Transformer Engineer
Location: Beijing
It envisioned being a long-term position. The applicant should be committed to serving in this role for a period of time sufficient to groom their successor(s).
Responsibilities:
1. Serve as the Asia subject matter specialist for Power Transformers.
2. Groom two junior specialists to become successors.
3. Review technical capabilities of potential suppliers and provide disposition via the Global Supplier database. Visit manufacturing facilities as necessary.
4. Track supplier performance in the Global Supplier database at the conclusion of each contract.
5. Provide expert consulting services to internal and external clients.
6. Serve as custodian of B&V guide specifications for power transformers.
7. Review projects’ Power Transformer purchase specifications
8. Provide technical “awareness” training to B&V electrical professionals.
9. Assist construction / startup to resolve technical issues. Be involved in post-mortem analysis.
10. Develop and maintain relationships with transformer suppliers.
11. Develop awareness of secondary transformer market (sales and rental) for emergency replacements.
Required Qualifications:
1. Working knowledge of applicable industry standards.
2. Working knowledge of test procedures contained in industry standards and B&V specifications.
3. Familiarity with several major OEMs supplying to the local markets, including their capabilities, reputations, attention to customer’s requirements, use or not of thermally upgraded paper, etc.
4. Experience sizing and applying xfmrs in power systems.
5. Working knowledge of B&V guide specs (could be developed OTJ if experienced hire from transformer industry).
6. BSEE or MSEE with minimum of 10 years’ experience in power or related industries.
Desired qualifications:
1. Design experience working with an OEM is very desirable.
2. Design review experience in collaboration with a 3rd party expert would be acceptable substitute for actual OEM design experience.
3. Previous involvement in transformer post mortem failure analyses.
4. Personal connections with sales and design engineers at OEMs.
