Essential Responsibilities

The Embedded Microprocessor/Hardware Expert will be responsible for providing technical leadership in the evolution of the avionics computing platform hardware. In this role, you will: • Provide technical leadership and serve as the primary embedded processing and hardware architect for next generation avionics systems. • Key member of the research and development team. • Identify opportunities for more effective and efficient computing and I/O architecture • Define and refine processing and I/O requirements • Coordinate hardware development needs with other Advanced Design Organization specialists (Processing, Displays, Human Centered Design, Networking) to ensure technology roadmaps are aligned to support the advanced avionics architectures. • Provide input and guidance to the overarching technology roadmaps. • Knowledge of mechanical design and assembly procedures. • Determine areas where technology advancements are needed and recommend approaches / programs to pursue. • Remain current in the state of the art processing methods and computing hardware architectures/components. • Execute trade studies relating to the evolution of the processing and I/O architecture and methods. • Provide technical expertise to the business development team in support of discussions with potential customers. • Participate in industry committees relating to processing/computing architectures and technologies. • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to less experienced engineers.

Qualifications/Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university or college • Minimum of 10 years technical experience in airborne applications of embedded and intergrated computing platforms • Experience leading small teams (3-5 people)

Desired Characteristics

• Experienced in integrated avionics systems architectures including integrated processing, aircraft networks, crew interface systems. • Experienced in RTCA DO-254 Level A civil hardware development programs. • Experienced in ARINC 653 partitioned operating environment and processing architectures in support of that operating environment • Experience planning of hardware development work. • High degree of Avionics product development experience • Familiar with certification of avionics hardware • Ability to rapidly prototype processing and I/O architectures • Self-motivated, driven, focused and results oriented • Proven record of successful development project execution • Strong oral and written communication skills with demonstrated customer relationship skills • Ability to provide guidance and feedback to help others strengthen specific knowledge / skill areas needed to accomplish a task or solve a problem • Demonstrated process orientation in approach to work • Experience working on a global development team.
