Role Summary/Purpose

GE is an equal opportunity employer, offering a great work environment, challenging career opportunities, professional training and competitive compensation.The Control/Data Network Engineer will be responsible for development, documentation, validation, and troubleshooting of locomotive control and data networks. In this role you will utilize experience or expertise to solve problems, develop and execute objectives for self and others, and have the ability to effect short-term and some long-term business goals.

Essential Responsibilities

• Responsible for network design, implementation, and maintenance in locomotive communication and control systems • Responsible for requirements analysis to ensure applications meet specification requirements • Responsible for network integration and testing activities ensuring quality specifications are met • Participate in design reviews • Drive performance, quality, productivity, and reliability enhancements • Use of configuration management tools for documentation change control

Qualifications/Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Computer or Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or other Engineering discipline from an accredited college or university.

Desired Characteristics: • 3 - 5 years of experience in developing and maintaining real-time control and data networks focusing on performance and latency • Both component and system-level knowledge of Arcnet, Ethernet, LIN, and CAN networks • Knowledge of network protocols including: Ethernet/IP, TCP/IP, and UDP/UDT • Knowledge of the QNX operating system and FTP, TFTP file transfer protocols • Hardware/software design and application experience in planning, execution, and validation of network device initiatives. Includes level two, level three, and higher application layers with Ethernet switches • Network cable specification, routing, and EMI considerations • Techniques to enhance secure networking • Physical network design experience including: network topology, device network interface, network switches, and bridges • Experience in network loading and data modeling with message prioritization. Use of simulation tools to determine the performance of the modeled network including node analysis and latency • Diagnostic design experience within a network data environment and with switching devices including the ability to detect and report network incident failures • Network testing/validation experience in measuring and real-time monitoring of: data transfer rates, network loading, and message latency, using Sharkylzer, Wire Shark, Netsniffer, or similar tools • Excel in writing clear and concise documentation for components, test plans, and design reviews • Experience with Requirements Management Tools such as DOORs • Railroad, Aviation, Medical or other safety critical field experience • Excellent written and verbal communication skills • Ability to work in a team environment
